Has anyone else noticed some major movement in Google today? I got completely dropped off for ALL my keywords about 3 weeks ago, and they seemed to all show up on Google today...

Yep... I see big movements today as well. Seems to happen about once every 2 weeks. Probably on some sort of cycle where Google takes into account new links and PageRank internally or something... that's my guess at least.

Moves on my key words have been huge; unfortunately they’ve been going in the wrong direction for me this time.
Patience though, I’ve seen them drop off before only to come back a week or so later.
I’ve been getting some decent traffic from Yahoo & MSN the last couple days too, which is new to me. I’ve never bothered checking my key word ranks in either of those search engines before, but something’s going on that’s working out well for me on that front.

i have experience that - but only with a few of my pages
the majority is stable with only minor movements in the ranking.
the papges with major movements - like FUOLOLY droping OUTt and some timel, a week or later BACK again
i have a guess based on carefull study and observation during several months - because FIRST i was "shocked" form such dropping out - then i got used - now i just keep waiting until they show up again - knowing well it will happen rather sooner than later.
my guess is
from the some 1000 html pages usually only some 300-400 are actually IN - BUT i know tht google has them all ..
so
i assusme that IF one particular page has noo surfes making a query of a CERTAIN number of queries RELEVANT to THAT particular page and its keywords .. then THAT page simply drops out of the ACTIVE database available for search - but remaining still in the database of LINKS from that domain - probably for later reference ..
i made such experience with several pages relevant to seasons - a christmas gift page
once very high ranked - then fully dropped out
because obviusly NOW no one makes queries about christmas and related stuff for most keywords.
for all those pages that have repeated queries each day it seems that that pge remains qauiet stable.
also
another factor contributing to the stabilty of a rank for ONE particular page appears to be HOW many OTHER links are leading INTO that particular page - including links ON your own site.
hence relevant cross-referencing pages with related links within a site - helps the surfers of course - but also appear to help the google bots ..
queries with url:www.yoursite.com
give changing results from day to day and no true clue how many pages are actually indexed AND USED for search results in the google database ..
but
a query with a word that is ON EVERY of YOUR pages - like "and"
or similar
hence a query:
and site:www.yourdomain.com
will give you the full lnumbe rof pages IN google database ...
the total number of visitors O a site may be the only relevant factor to be worried or NOT .. and that has steadily increased months after months during the past many months - specially since december 2003 ..
thanks to google ( or my own PARALLEL SEO efforts of some 1000 hrs of work during the past SAME months ? who knows - but the results are positive ONLY .. even these hours or past days )

Hi, I am new to the discussion group. I have seen a lot of movement too in my key words in google, the keep being ranked from 5-6 to +100 and back. Is it due to the google dance or something new.

I guess you could call it the dance but it is more a shuffle these days!!
They seem to keep trying things and so you get dumped and then you come back later sometimes better sometimes worse
So you need to wait till youve "done the dump"
and then "do the twist"
and then "do the tango"
or something like that!!
However check the .64 databases [new] on http://www.mcdar.net/dance/index.php
which will give you an indication of where you are going with the dance

It's German for 'dirty old man'. :D No I haven't got a clue either.

OH MY GAWD! I can't believe you posted that pic, Shawn. I can't wait to tell Erik...hehe.
Compar, that was an amazingly close guess (And, from now on, that is what I will define a "derbertch" as)! "Derbertch" is actually the nickname of my rockstar boyfriend (pictured above..haha), which just sort of evolved from another nickname ("Deutch", since he's German). He is sort of a "dirty old man", so good one, Compar :D !
Yes, I know we Californian's are twisted...
