View Full Version : Idea for a website - what do you think?

I'm building a small website (www.slstation.com/indexx.php - it's not ready yet as you can see :D )
Basically - you can submit and show the world your best avatars/logos/small images adding a short message/description/comment. You could also link it to your website or blog.
I'm using banner rotator but I don't want it to look like paid links/ads (submitting avatars will be free). It's not supposed to be yet another webdirectory either but more like a place when artists, designers (or people with cool avatars :D ) can submit their work.
What do you think about that - would anyone be interested at all  (at first I though it's a nice, original idea but now... I'm not sure anymore)

This should be in Website Review forum.
And, BTW welcome to DP. :)

Thank you :)
But I still don't know what do you think about it ;)
Oh, and - do you find that gray background depressing?? (my friend don't like it very much :D )

The grey is not good, but the idea is very good.
Why 2 xx for index out of interest?
Let me know when your site is ready, I would be interested to submit to it.

Good concept! Sure, you will get good response. It is too early to comment on design part. Let it take its final shape and post it again here. I would like to submit avatars drawn by me.:)

Thanks for all responses :)
Yes, indexx because it's not ready yet. Hopefully I will find more time to finish it before the weekend...

Great idea. I also like the background. It really pops the webpage and images.
Strong contrast. What will happen when you click on an Avatar?
Only suggestion is maybe increase page to 760px and display more Avatars?
Over all very nice though. Good job.

Its a cool concept, but I would put a brief description, site news, or something similar on the main page. :)

Nooo :P Previously it was in "General Chat" forum (more like a idea review not design review)
You don't have to prise it (LOL) but since my friend hated the way it looked and me on the contrary, I just wasn't sure if I'm not being too subjective and in reality everyone would hate it and would hit back as soon as possible LOL
rickvidallon - actually I can't decide, _blank is an obvious choice but wouldn't popping-up websites annoy a bit?
I'm thinking about increasing avatar dimensions to 100x100 so 100 x 5 + spaces between = ~600.
Or is 80x80 a standard
Page with all avatars (1000 or so) packed together would look cool :D
Its a cool concept, but I would put a brief description, site news, or something similar on the main page. :)
There is a short info on the "Info" page - since I'm not native english speaker I want to make it as short as possible to avoid any grammar/spelling mistakes :o Actually I might already make a few LOL
Should I make it 80x80 or 100x100?
