Sorry if this sounds like a very simple question to some, but how do I save a file as .htaccess - I use a Mac and whenever I try and save as .htaccess it adds the extension .txt - it becomes ".htaccess.txt" Is this normal ? any idea what I am doing wrong ? Thanks

Upload it to your server as htaccess.txt and change the name once on the server to .htaccess

Try putting quotes around the name when you save it - i.e. save the file as ".htaccess". No idea if this works on Macs (I don't have one) but it does on Windows and it's worth a try. :)

Don't forget to download it again. There should be no problems editing a .htaccess file, it's just the creation of them that comes unstuck.

ThanksMost applications will save the file without any extension if you add a dot at the end:
.htaccess.
