Is a Meta tag Description tag important for yahoo to rank good in serp positions of yahoo. coz I heard that search engines ignore this and can cause penalties rather than ranking good

it is important because it will bring out more keywords for each page. rather then having a description show in the search engine that is just a bunch of mixxed up jibarish

It's quite important because SE look into the meta tags (like keywords/description) and then with the meta data, they analyse your full content of the page. I've heard the punish websites for using longer descriptions/keywords than allowed.

i think meta tags is somewhat alittle important. the most important of all is your <title></title>

It is very important in yahoo. Use keyword in the phrases and keep its length to 200 characters for yahoo. Please do not repeat keyword lots of times. 3-4 times is maximum for yahoo. Keyword stuffing will penalize your website.

if did heard wrong about ignoring description meta tag by search engines, You should put it in pages with proper description of page using keywords, you will gain more.

yes meta Description is importnet to SE but as they told u before me its around 20% importnet cuz Title got the 80% so if u did a good meta Description and with bad title belive me u wont get any postion for it so work on ur tilte first then on ur meta Description and for the long i know that title most be less then 60 and meta Description less then 150 thats the friendly number

The meta description tag is important, because it is what some search engines use next to your listing in the serps. Make it inviting and you will get more visitors.

I agree with all above. If you don't spam your meta tags they are very important. Just repeating keywords looks spammy and can obviously dock you SE points.
