Anyway, this type of stuff has been around for years.. Not much different now.. Hell during the Clintonian 90's if you were at a sporting event, no matter how small, your picture is in a DB somewhere. All you need is a picture of an individual to do an eye proximatey scan for identification.. The best of the best in casino ops in Vegas use this stuff to detect repeat cheats.

Cool technology if you ask me. Anyway, I always go by the premise "if I have not done anything wrong, what do I have to worry about?"

You'd be surprised how much governments can change in the span of a few decades. One of the most important lessons in life is not to ignore the power of change nor the BS that can bring it about. :)

I wonder if Patriot Act 3.0 will have a Civil Protection MicroProcessor clause. :D

The problem here lies in that the definition of something to hide changes every year as the balance of power shifts. Something to hide can mean:

"suicidal/cultist/terrorist/rapist/spy/arsonist"

or

"refuses to speak newspeak/shows human feelings/does not share wife with local commissar/refused to participate in spontaneous demonstration/worships counter-progress diety."

For both sets of infractions, depending on who is in power, the consequences
can be the same. Once you give an entity too much power, it's like a license to do whatever the hell it wants in darker times.

If you watched the show, Peter Jennings last line was that government started secret data mining programs, pulled them after folks got upset about privacy violations, renamed them and classified them under different names, thus they are not subject to public scrutiny nor can congress change secret programs.

caught the last forty minutes of that show. Pretty interesting. I am not too fired up on that Nora program being used though. Not that I have anything to hide, but it seems like a flawed way of associating someone. I mean, how do I know who lives in the house I used to live in? Should my address or old address or phone number be how I am associated with someone else? I don't think so.

I think that Nora could be a great tool, but like anything else, it depends on how it is used. They demonstrated pretty clearly with that segment on the Dever PD, that in the hands of the wrong people, a system like that is ripe for abuse.
