To get to the top of all search engines is the same. Build backlinks, Key words and content. SEO works on all search engines.

Just realize that while you'll see an immediate response in google when you add a powerful backlink, yahoo doesn't rely on backlinks nearly as much.. so it won't be nearly as dramatic. I've always heard they rely more on the "hub"/authority of specific sites/pages than links, but really.. who knows.

I agree with this. If I have noticed any difference between Yahoo and Google it is that Yahoo likes more links than Google, e.g. I suspect it gives more weight from a sitewide backlink than google does IMO.

i am new not sure what you mean by back link
back link is something like links from other website that links your website
many ways to get back links
Option 1
back links from blogs by posting comments.
note: most blogs uses "no follow" comments so it would be worthless to post comment there
Option 2
back link at free directory website
Option 3
pay money to get posted at directory websites lol
I would go for option 1 and 2 though

I'm not sure whether its allowed by google or not. For this question perhaps other people can help
for free directory submitter look for it under google
search for "fast directory submission"
take the one rank top on the page. The free one will allow you to submit to 150 directories for free.
there is also someone giving free directory submitter in this forum but the thread is quite old so i am not sure if he is still giving it away or not

You don't have to pay a fee to get listed in yahoo search result. The fee it to get listed in the business directory.

I am going to place here such a foolish comment that i know but it's fact that i have seen in my career.
The keyword which you are not targeting will automatically comes at top in Yahoo,
For the keywords you are getting top rank in Google, in yahoo you won't find in top 100.
And the keyword which you are not getting in top 100 in Google, you get good ranks on yahoo.
I have conclude by checking more than 20 sites, and do research on the same.
It's very hard to find for each and every keywords manually where the website ranks in each se.
But it always use
http://www.geoseo.com , this is not giving accurate results, but some what nearer to the actual listings.
Try it out.

I think Yahoo relies on Meta Keywords, keyword saturation and backlinks.

Backlinks and Content is what matters for all engines.
But you can buy your way through Yahoo. :)
Use Yahoo Search Submit. There are various options. I have gone in for the Basic program. It is very good.
+rep appreciated.

Use site maps and submit sitemaps.
Sitemaps in HTML and XML format.
Then use Yahoo related services :
Yahoo Answers with your link in the answer boxes.
Yahoo webmaster pages.
Tagging and Pinging with various services :
Technorati.
Feedburner.
etc. etc.
Bookmarking websites :
Digg and Stumble Upon.
netscape and Propeller.
Basically yahoo related services carry a lot of weight, the same as Google related services carry a lot of weight in Google.

I think yahoo's algorithm favors the quantity of backlinks you build rather than the quality.
If you build enough backlinks your ranking will improve in yahoo's serp.

I'd have to say with my experience with Yahoo and google you are 100% correct
If I show up in Google for a key word, it NEVER shows in Yahoo, if I show in Yahoo I can be sure it won't even register in the top 100 for google.
the only conclusion I can come from this is it's no fluke. yahoo monitors what key words google brings you up for and will not list for the same
maybe not in every case, but it's pretty close
