Hey,

I'm in need of a script which is very similar to PHP Melody (http://www.phpsugar.com/phpmelody.html) but it needs to be free.
Does anyone know of any good ones?

Anyone? There must be something? The internet is too large for something similar not to exist. :)

Hmm...

PHPMelody specifically is designed for music video, but you should be able to take any reasonably featured multimedia script and just customize it for your purposes.

Usually, "free" means you have to put in some sweat equity to get it to do what a commercial script may do out-of-the-box. If you aren't finding suitable Google results, you need to look for something more general. For example, try to search for free php video scripts, free video scripts or something similar. Just be forewarned - you can't expect to find a lot of them (good ones) for absolutely zero.

That said, if you are willing to make a little effort, here are some that may suit you (in no particular order). Just note - a couple have at least nominal fees, but I tried to set the spend at $40 or less just to give you a few more options:

PHPMotion (http://phpmotion.com) - It's free, and can handle multiple categories, videos and MP3 files. But, I have heard complaints about the use of PHPShield - a LOT of complaints. Just do a search here and you'll find the conversations. But, overall, the script itself receives fairly high marks.

YTMND Clone (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=551955) - This script has been advertised here, so you may want to check it out. Hey, it's free.

Vidiscript (http://www.vidiscript.com/) - It's free and open source (at least that's how it's described), but you must sign up for it. Search for this script here on the boards, and you'll find at least one discussion about it.

PHP Video Share (http://www.businessvein.com/PHP-Video-Share.html) - Advertised as a free YouTube clone, but the "catch" is that you have to contact the developer, so a head's up is in order here.

VShare (http://www.buyscripts.in/youtube_clone.html) - Another free YouTube clone. The good news is that there is no encryption (open source), but there is a $10 cost.

Joomla with Seyret video component (http://www.joomlaholic.com) - Seyret functions a LOT like YouTube or any other similar script, just that it runs within Joomla. But, this could be more complex than you want depending upon how comfortable you are with using a CMS. Please note that Seyret Pro version is NOT free - you have to make a minimum $40 donation for Pro. However, the basic version has a lot of features and is free, so you may want to take a look for yourself.

Again, you're looking for free, so that really limits what is readily available.

Thanks Bratzilla but I have seen all of these scripts and the problem with them is that you have to upload these videos to your server. I'm looking for a script like PHP Melody where you only embed the videos to sites like YouTube.

Actually, our VidiScript allows you to embed videos. You can even set it to only allow embedded videos.

While in Beta we are not 100% open. As soon as we are out of beta, we will open up the code for everyone. Which by the way should be Tuesday of this week.

Oh.. Thats great then. I would be willing to try it out.
So once its out of beta, will the embedded version be available?
Cheers.
