It probably looks like any other data center, just racks and racks of servers. From what I hear they use lot of cheap hardware.

yupp...i donnt think so. Only reason why google succeeded is quality and from the begining itself they relied on quality for success. so they would be having a big and high quality set up.

seoindia: google has said before that they use cheap hardware, each server UNDER U$ 1000, theyir secret was that they have the numbers.
They have lots of little computer doing the work. basically distributed computing.
And as far as the DC pics, would be as exciting as when rackshack showed their DC pics.

there was article about this a while ago. It also explained how they slice their data and how they deliver search results. No top secret stuff, mind you, just general info on how the whole thing works.
I'll see if I can find a link for that sucker.

4-5 years ago they had more than 100.000 cheap Linux servers doing the job. Google executives even bashed Microsoft saying that in their case if they would pay the license for each server then the company would worth half of its current value. Of course, this is an exageration :D

Datacenters are boring, they are just row upon row of mindless servers in square (or rectangular) boxes and little flashing led's and a constant buzzing noise from both the servers and the air con required to keep the rooms cool
