I have decided to start a link directory. I am running a few poker portals but I thought it would be fun to try something new. I bought the domain name linklistings.org on godaddy. Is this a good domain for a link directory?

Nice domain, just it's hard to build traffic to a directory website, especially when your new. Couple friends of mine all put in a few hunred $$$ and now they are rolling in around $80.00/day with 2000+ unique and 10,000+ page views daily.
This was a while back, I don't remember the site anymore

yeah its a nice suitable domain
you have to work on SEO and linkbuilding and make sure people will remember the .org though
have a motto or slogan emphasizing on .org
example: "if you need listing, come to link listings organization" etc..

Thanks for your replies. Usually I wouldn't register an .org domain but I think it will be suitable with a link directory since I know a few good link directories that have .org. Anyway I will try to make .org stick out a bit in the logo also. As soon as I get my script up and running I will start the link building. :D Also, good tip about the slogan, I will remember that.

It would be better if you secured the .com also, as some visitors will probably type in .com because of habit.

The .com costs 2100 dollars as it is listed as a premium domain on godaddy.;) But I just see it as an confirmation that the domain name is good. But it's a shame though...

$2,100?? That is too expensive, especially if the .net is available, but I think that having the .com extension is very important, even if you plan on developing the .org extension.
