I've been able to get to the front page of google for any key word i've ever gone after, HOWEVER I can not even get close to the front page of Yahoo

Is it because I have to pay $350 I seen somewhere to them, and that they don't allow any sites who haven't paid to come up on the first few pages?

Anytime I have reached the front page of 1 it reached the front of all.

I think it depends. I also have good results in one, and bad in other and the way instead, and having link in Yahoo dir is good thing of course, but it's not the main reason for being the top.

No no.. Thats not true. I'm number uno on both google and yahoo. Its just a matter of time really. :) Google seems more efficient as usual. Yahoo does take a lotta time but once you go up there, you stay up there for a long time ;)

No you do not have to pay to get to the first page (I assume you mean Y! directory). Good "old fashioned" on-page SEO is important for Y!. Your title, filenames, alt text, KW density and so on should be strong, but don't go crazy with it.

Paying for a listing in yahoo directory is not necessary to achieve a front page listing in yahoo.
Yahoo and google has different algorithms that's why they display different results.

I agree with longcall911, I think if you focus on your on-page optimization your rankings will
improve in yahoo.

I've done as much as I can on the pages.
Well enough to come up number 2 on google for a particular keyword, but never do i ever come up on Yahoo for anything

Hmmm, seems strange to me

Every SE has it's own algorithm. Google have different result in SERP compare to google simply because google is more on page optimization while yahoo is more on content.

I find that Yahoo like more backlinks than Google.

thats very bizzare. i run a large number of SEO sites and always find it easy to get to the top of yahoo, MSN etc but the opposite in Google...

if you find it easy in Google, then you are very lucky as this is the one that really matters.

I've never paid to be included in Yahoo's listing and still do OK, but as already stated Yahoo and Google have different algorithms.
Rather than try to second guess how either of them work, concentrate on all the usual SEO techniques and also try to focus on building a site that is useful for real people.

I'm on page 2 of Yahoo and page 1 Google for my main search terms. I get 100 times as many hits per month from Google as I do from Yahoo. Does anyone get lots of traffic from Yahoo?

I actually got to number 1 on Yahoo for one day before it dropped out all together. but in that one day I got 10 times the amount of hits through them for the same key word as google gets me

On one of my niche sites Yahoo is my main source of Traffic but the downside is this site doesn't seem to rank well in Google.

Is it because I have to pay $350 I seen somewhere to them, and that they don't allow any sites who haven't paid to come up on the first few pages?

I have number one on Yahoo for a certain niche keyword. It has been #1 for several months and I have never paid them a penny. So paying them to be there is not true.

I think lots of relevant back links and unique content is how you rank well in any search engines. Also, anchor text links that link within your own site helps a lot, well at least for me it does.

Google and Yahoo have different search rankings algorithms. Yahoo, is said to still love the onpage factors but they have been moving towards the Google path recently, counting the links too.
