Using stumbleupon for link development and traffic?

Hey... it looks to me that to get good traffic and backlinks from stumbleupon you need to have a lot of friends on there, but my problem (and im sure a couple others problem) is that I really dont have friends on su. So would it be a good idea to create a group of friends from here to increase all our su traffic?

StubmleUpon is useless for link development.
It's good for traffic though.

but I mean for traffic... you will ultimately receive more traffic from stumbleupon if you have a lot of friends stumbling your pages right? there are a bunch of blogs that use su to gain ridiculous amounts of traffic.
