Does anyone on here resell domains or know of any reputable companies who will let you operate as a domain reseller? I'm thinking of possibly setting up a service myself, partially to handle my own domains as I'm gradually building up the number I have available, and also because I occassionally do freelance work as a web designer/developer and often clients like being able to deal with just one person (i.e. I can host their site, register the domain, design/maintain the site).

I wouldn't be looking to sell hundreds of domains, so I'd prefer to avoid any schemes with large annual fees or setup costs, and I'd prefer to deal with a UK company if possible (although selling .com/.net/.org as well as .uk domains).

I'm in the same case as you (resell, reg. domains for me and clients). I'm a GoDaddy reseller, but annual fees are 99$ or 199$, maybe too much (may be slightly cheaper if you sell them from another reseller, instead of directly from godaddy). I also got an Enom reseller account (for free).

I like godaddy. Easy to use interface and a very recognizable format to many domainers. Can also set your prices and promos.

Good Luck!

Try enom.com Theyir registrar api is also implemented in many hosting scripts so your customers can register domain and buy hosting all directly from your website

I already use 123-Reg, but their affiliate scheme isn't really what I want. I want to be able to register names directly, rather than just send clients to a third party site.

$99 option from goDaddy is a good option if you plan to sell domain
their selling prices are lower than eNom.

I'll take a look at the Register Fly option, although I have to wait for them to approve me before I can see all the API documentation. GoDaddy looks interesting but I don't really want to gamble $99 on something that might not take off.

If you check our username nrnf on np, he subsidizes your WWD account (GD reseller) so your first year is free (Or at least he used to).
enom reseller is still by far the best option, especially if you want to go "large" one day, and it's free if you use their API.
The registerfly.com one is still in demo, even once your accepted. Not live/active yet, and I'd give them some time to get some kinks out before jumping in with 2 feet. However, a free 6.50 reseller with no domain requirement is pretty sweet.

I'm looking for something with an API anyway, as I'd like to run my own service rather than redirect people to a GoDaddy registration page. I just wish most of them didn't charge an upfront startup fee. :(

I think there is a minimun price for a basic reseller account (at least $49).

Unfortunately directi.com don't offer .uk domains, which rules them out for me as I'd need to be able to offer those (I don't really care about .cc, .tv etc., just .com/.net/.org and .uk).

Yes, but because he gets commission for referring you to be a reseller, he subsidizes the cost to make it $0 and everyone comes out even...
