Wordpress blog outsourcing design work, tips / warnings?

Hi, been working with an outsource that was selected through www.getafreelancer.com. At this time have only provided my theme files for the person to work on and get a feel for my site.

The work I am having done is basically a complete redesign and a custom plugin made for my site. To finish the work and help them understand how my current site functions, plugins, how it is organized and how I currently have the plugins working, they are asking for access to my site.

As this is my first time outsourcing work, I am hesitant providing this access for obvious reasons. Though I do trust the person, having been very professional and has been working closely with my goals and outcome for the site. Also on the getafreelancer they have postive reviews for work they have completed for other people. It is just that I have not been able to find any do's / don'ts / tips / warnings on the interent as to what to expect when outsourcing work.

I feel this is a normal request, just thought I would get some feedback on here as I am sure there is other people who outsource.

Any tips for me???

I am service provider from Getafreelancer. As per my experience there are few provider who steal you script and resale them for merely $5 . Anyway don't get down..I would suggest you to create clone of your website in sub domain and only keep file required by developer and work.
In this way you will have things little secure and always have area to do testing.

Sounds like a good idea, so basically when you say make a subdomain. Would that mean basically copying the whole site over to this new domain and setting up a password for the sub-domain site? So he can work on the site there while not interfing with my main site until he has completed the changes?

Gonna have to search how to do this, cause to be honest not sure how to set-up a sub domain, is it a hard thing to do?

I am a WordPress consultant and as such in order to work on some things on a client's blog, I would require access to the blog admin and also FTP access to upload plugins and updated theme files. Most professional consultants have zero interest in stealing a client's content especially since they could potentially lose money and their reputation all in one fell swoop.

I understand how you could be nervous, it's difficult to trust people you haven't met. Have you spoken via telephone to the outsource person? I often suggest an initial phone call with clients so that they can hear my voice and I think that is a real ice-breaker.

Good luck and I hope your fears are alleviated and the work that is done or your site is top-notch.
