Write articles and submit them to article directories. Add a few links to your site at the bottom of each article. Distribute the articles to hundreds of sites.

Agree! Just use this free dofollow finder tool (http://www.howtorankhigh.com/download.html) here to find dofollow blogs and leave your comment. Spider will crawl and increase on your backlink. Don't waste time to leave comment on nofollow blog.

Yeah blog comment is a good way to increase backlinks but comment on related dofollow blogs also submit your links to social bookmark networks such as digg and del.icio.us

Commenting on blogs is probably the easiest thing in my opinion. There are programs that weed out the blogs by nofollow, PR, and some other stuff too.

buy signatures, ask for link exchange, submit in free webdirectories, participate in blogs participation and leave comments there
Web directories can be great help to get free and fast many links.

You can try bid directories too. Links from them are usually picked up much faster than links from free directories.

Go to google.com/webmaster/ and there they will show you the external links you have, aka backlinks. << Thats your best tool to use. Now if you to get more backlinks, just keep posting on forums and such.

Try checking your backlinks here: http://www.smartpagerank.com. There's also a section called "Backling checker". I believe it's quite good! It will give you the links, it's PR and the Anchor text used to link back to your site.

Good advice is also to check where your competitors get their links.

Or you can do "link:http://www.yourlink.com", although Google will show limited backlinks, links which are old and quality.

what a load of bullshit!! LOL
bidding directories don't get picked up faster than free directories just for the mere fact they are bidding directories. if anything google hates bidding directories and the links on them are discounted by google.

Write articles and submit them to article directories. Add a few links to your site at the bottom of each article. Distribute the articles to hundreds of sites.
i did that with over a dozen and unfortunately only one shows the link and it's been over 2 months. im skeptical now of the article submission services that you don't pay for

There is only one way to increase your backlinks - start a link building campaign.
It could be time consuming but there is no other way. Isn't it obvious?
Register everywhere, submit everywhere, buy text links, buy intext links, etc.

Yahoo is the best indexer, and the one we use to check all our backlinks with. Google deliberately displays very limited results, so don't sweat about them too much, but showing 0 for Yahoo, whilst you've got so many links showing on Altavista and All the Web is indicative of some error somewhere. Try to use SEO Quake (Firefox Add On, that is also available for IE now) to check your SEO parameters with.
