Get some other sites to link to your site and Google will index you within days. :)

No but submitting your site to directories and search engines and getting some links from other sites to your site will help a lot.

it took roughly 10 days for google to index my new site. I submitted it to a couple of directories and had link exchanges with a few sites.

You can also look at 3 way link exchanges as a method of building backlinks. Try and exchange with sites on your theme.

I beg to differ, really: sure, links are the de facto way to get into google (and pretty much every other search engine), but directories are not your ticket to a quick entry; directories are human-edited, and tend to be very, very slow.

most people have places online they can place links that'll get their site indexed that they don't even realize. anywhere from your dmoz profile to in the appropriate section under wikipedia to your "homepage" button on most forums all work.

then there's asking your friends to help out, too ;-)

If you have other sites where you can place links to your new site, the time for Google to index the new site is about 10 days.
