Assuming the blog is DoFollow, linking in blog comments is far easier.

I prefer linking and commenting. That's more "natural" so you won't be penalized by Google or the other SEs.

Also, receiving a comment in our blog is always nice ;) And if this comment is a quality comment even better!

always answer the comments. I always thank the commenter first. That way they are more likely to come back or subscribe to your feed.

I do reply to every comment I get on my posts. People will feel like you're actually reading what they say. That will make them come back ;) (at least some of them will do)
