It usually takes place every three months, so I would say June or July. It doesn't really matter, since Google appears to be lowering the value of PR by giving a bunch of brand new sites PR 5.

I wouldn't concern myself with PR if I were you, but that is just my opinion. I worked hard on my older websites for 3 months straight, and only one got any PR. Since that incident, I've decided I'm not going to waste time with PR anymore.

My site recently went from PR1 to PR6. It means nothing, traffic is not affected, the only thing it did do is make the noob that sits next to me at work ask me how much I would charge to do the same for his site :D

One of my sites has 700+ backlinks in Google and is a pr4

Not really, the PR has nothing to do with the number of links but the PR of the pages that link to them. You could comfortably have a PR9 page with 1 link and a PR 1 page with 10,000 links. The two aren't related.

Every three or four months has been the pattern of late. Some weird anomalies happened about a week apart around first of April, as I remember.

The last update occured so soon because Matt Cutts asked them to update again after BigDaddy finished updating to all the datacenters. The update just ended up being a little crazy!! :D

In Sept/Oct 2005 Google rolled back multiple datacenters aka the 'Jagger update'. Google is always tweaking things for SPEED and RESULTS. This is the primary business model for Google.

I think this really hit home for me when I read an excerpt from a press conference posted on Matt Cutt's Blog.

Here's the paragraph that caught my attention.

I'd worry about getting all of your pages indexed, especially those that you want to put reciprocal links on. Page rank comes and goes, but indexing is forever!!! (hopefully) Those in the know would be more concerned with having their link on a page that is indexed by G, MSN and Y. PR will come eventually. IMHO

Lets see there are 100 parts to the Google algorithim so PR is just 1 part...not one I would worry about as Google itself can't seem to get it's system to work correctly.

Some days toolbar works other days it doesn't. For a bunch of college educated programmers Quality Control is a concept Google has not done very well with.

Schmidt admitted such in a recent interview saying with so many DCs and information the quality scores would suffer.

Referring to the sheer volume of Web site information, video and e-mail that Google's servers hold, Schmidt said: "Those machines are full. We have a huge machine crisis."

Now knowing this you are going to sit and beat your head into the desk... in hopes of obtaining a score/value that seemingly nobody is sure of???

Your wasting your time on Google PR.....try the old type PR - Public Relations and you'll fare much better.

For those of you in Rio Linda, incase you havn't figured it out, no one knows when the next PR update will start...unless you work at Google.

The only way to get an idea of when the next update will start is to watch for Matt Cutts to make a post/reply saying he'll ask them to do a PR update. The last update started less than a week after he did that!!! :D

Actually 5 is the new 4 it would seem.

Thinking about things abstractly when the index was half the size as it's current state most sites had a PR 4 when first hitting online.

Now due to the index doubling and therefore the amount of links to pages doubling as well, along with the new TrustRank application websites that in the past would have scored PR4 are now PR5 and this ladies and gentlemen leads us to one conclusion and one conslusion only and that is........


Google PageRank means zip, zero, zilch, nil, nada, nyet, nine, nicht, and any other forms of a language that mean nothing, in relation to where a webpage will rank in its free results pages.

Actually no PR prediction tool can possibly know the correct PR for your site.

PR is updated daily within Google and as all you PR zealots know updated externally (That is to everyone who doesnt work for google, me you ninetendo and any PR predicition tool) once every 90 days or so.

Unless BD will make updates a bit more frequent.

Don't feel bad G is confused to, just last month they messed up the conversion rate for AS payouts, and then there's their search engine. It seems to be contagious.

In this moment i have two website with PR6, and two with PR7.

The PR6 ones can't have more than 4-5. The PR7 ones can't have, under NO circumstance more than PR5.

And with the last Google problems : Officials stating "we are out of space", the sitemaps team "we have problems with the site: queries", the PR going mad and all the other screw-ups .. I doubt it we will have answers soon.

Just to clear things up for everyone who does not know.

Google had a PR update in March 2006 after it finalized the implementation of Big Daddy. After this update they made a mistake and exported the live PR that Google uses internally.

They also had a problem with canonical URLs and had to do another update to correct those issues.

The end result of all the Big Daddy changes is sites that were PR4 are now PR5

PR isn't based on generosity, it is based on links. If you have PR4 pages it is because they have enough PR to be a PR4.

And the next public PR update should happen sometime in July assuming nothing changes.

I worked my tail off for that PR4 trading links like crazy. But i'll tell you what I would of not have that PR4 if it wasn't for DP, it makes it so much easier to find webmasters just like you and to trade links.

Also i've worked x10 harder like I stated above, on this new site so i'm hoping for a nice boost.

I wouldn't go by toolbar PR (especially last update) for anything. A toolbar update has nothing to do with your serps, your links are already factored in before that.

Google Page Rank increased considerably for many websites because as Maldives has mentioned it's broken. I had a new site go from PR0 to PR4 and all I had was an RSS feed on another forum.

Internal links also pass on PR. You can be a PR 6 or maybe even a PR7 with internal links alone if you have enough pages and design your site properly.

Those prediction tools really don't predict anything. Since they only use a few of the algorthims google looks at to decide your pagerank.
