Godaddy host quite a few, I think they are the largest register. If you are talking about who is the largest hosting company then I'm unsure? Hostgator are quite popular, I prefer Dotster or MyDomain for my hosting and register. I do use Hostgator as well for hosting. Some other popular hosts are Dreamhost & bluehost.

I don't use godaddy anymore but if they are doing well for you and your site(s) then I would stay with them. At least until your hosting contracts up. You asked who hosts the most domains and the only info I could find is from netcraft - Hosting Providers gaining most sites over the last 24 hours (http://uptime.netcraft.com/netmove/today).

Big does not mean best, If you need a best host who will provide you very reliable plan and prompt support choose one of the following:

www.sitelutions.com

www.eirca.net

depends on your need actually. i myself started with ipower and moved to godaddy and still using them for few of my sites. they are a good host for beginners who dont need to many options. recently i launched a site that i could not host with godaddy as they are not a good PHP host and didn;t offer some features i wanted so i signed up wtih bluehost and now i have both godaddy and bluehost.

If you want stability and do not mind about pricing, I would suggest hosting.com, had used them for years. Extremely stable servers.

Since I can't edit my earlier post ... I used Dreamhost for awhile and then it got ugly, never use them unless you want a mountain of problems. If you want a good host then I would suggest Hostgator, MyDomain.com, Downtownhost & LunarPages are all great from my experience.

Big corps that over sell:

Hostgator.com
Bluehost.com
Hostmonster.com

Smaller Corps that Dont oversell

Liquidweb.com
Knownhost.com
Reaverhost.com

They are all good hosting/support. It really depends on what you are looking for. I have used them all ;) (except hostmonster.com)

Why all of you like hostgator? I tried it. It need phone verification. They are charging 9$ a month. I think they don't have enough experiance in hosting. Even they haven't windiws hosting or any other hosting product.

I host my site in godaddy. They are good

I use hostgator now, and they're in the top tier.

Whats the problem with phone verification? A lot of company's do that including yours truly. And of course experience in web hosting is all relative. The fact they don't offer windows hosting doesn't speak to lack of experience. Windows perhaps is simply a different business model that firms embrace while others choose not too.

i had various hosts since 1999 and i vote for hostgator. sure, they may oversell but i haven't seen any hit on the performance of my sites. at work i've administered a windows 2003 server on IIS - it sucks and is resource hungry requiring lots of ram and the latest and greatest hardware. lots of reboots required. the LAMP (linux apache mysql php) model seems more reliable even on lesser hardware requirements.

Hi,

I am sure the question is not which is the best between hostgator hostmonster or others, it's which type of shared hosting is the best and I made a poll for you to vote and debate here (http://sponsorsplace.com/viewtopic.php?p=44#44). I'd be curious to hear your answers myself!

I've been using mediatemple for a couple years since I like the scalability of their computer grid architecture.

However the competition is so tight in the hosting segment that it's almost becoming a commodity.
