Heh,

Try the link checker in the signature below. It doesn't just give you PR, it also gives you Anchor Text, Anchor type, Nofollow status, the number of total links on donor page and more.

I wrote about my method for checking links for your competition (http://www.unclepeppers.com/2008/competitive-analysis-tools/) on my blog. That may be helpful. Otherwise, take a look at Joost De Valk's link analyzer. (http://www.joostdevalk.nl/seo-tools/link-analysis/)

It is lightweight, and won't get you suspended by Google or Yahoo.

THe one that Jamesey recommends is (http://seopro.com.au/free-seo-tools/link-checker/) pretty sweet too, but Joost's is a firefox plugin and allows you to look at the links live in Yahoo.

... actually the more I look at the Free Link Checker (http://seopro.com.au/free-seo-tools/link-checker/) from Jamesey, the more I like it. Sweet tool.

Take a look at: http://www.smartpagerank.com/pagerank-backlinks.php

You can view PR, anchor text, and nofollow. All very handy.

It is nice that it goes out to the full 1000, instead of paging through one after another.

Download google toolbar (http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/toolbar/FT3/intl/en/index.html) .It will tell you the PR of the page and also you can see all the backlinks to that page with a single click :)

If you mean a tool which checks the backlinks and also gives pagerank values of the pages which are linking to the site, then Back Link Watch (http://www.backlinkwatch.com/) is a very good tool.

Great tool, Jamesey. If it gave also a small summary (similarly as it does for Page Rank) of the top 10 anchor texts used, then it would be awesome.

Hi, maybe you guys should look into this as well. I will tell you the PR of all the back links that you currently have. Try it to see what I mean.

Hello all,

I really want to understand how these backlink checkers work.
I tried the free links checker recommended by jamesey and was really suprised by the results.
Most of the results were nofollow.
4 or 5 OK backlinks from Ezine articles where I have about 14 articles.
4 or 5 OK backlinks from the Warrior forum where I have 63 posts.
1 OK backlink from articldashboard where I have 14 articles.
No backlinks from Qassia where I have about 20 articles.
etc, etc etc,

Can someone explain?

Thankyou
Barb.

I have to say that this tool that Jamesey mentioned is the best I've seen.

I'm now a convert from my other tools.

A really good one is at iwebtool.com that gives you the PR as well as where the backlink came from.

Wow, thanks for the compliments everyone, I glad you like it. :)

Barb, can you please give me the URL of the site you checked and I will verify that they are all indeed nofollow. Although, sometimes it is surprising (disappointing) to see the amount of webmasters using nofollow these days.

Cheers,

Jamesey.

The hope with those ezine sites is that some other website will use your article on their website, which may not be nofollow, assuming your link is in the footer.

There are many, many other ways of getting backlinks (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=224828). Google's Matt Cutts recently discussed linkbait, for instance - Here's his blog (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/seo-advice-getting-links/).

You all should probably read the post from Geoland on nofollow (http://geoland.org/2007/11/fake-links-nofollow-is-just-the-beginning) and other ways of making links non-crawlable. Even with the handy tools, like SEOQuake (http://www.seoquake.com) (set to linethrough nofollow links), you may not be looking at useful links.

In other words, take what you see with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the awesome new backlink checking resources... I added reputation to those who added new tools I haven't heard of.

The key with any backlink tool is to compare it against itself. There are tons of different backlink checkers all with their own strengths and weaknesses, so to compare them against each other isn't helpful for finding your backlinks. Just compare whatever tool you're using with itself every few days or every week, and you can see the growth of your link building campaigns.
