I'm going to start my first site/blog ever and I have absolutely no experience with web dev'ing so I'm in the dark lol. I figured my first step would be to , obviously , find an appropriate name. Can you guys point me toward some affordable Domain registars that explain the process?(Unless one of you are kind enough to!)
Basically I'm wondering what I need to start my site and how I go about getting a name for it instead of using geocities.com/insergenericnamehere
Thanks for any and all assistance!

You need a domain name and a web host.
Keep these transactions separate - don't get a "free" domain with hosting.
Domains: Name.com and NameCheap.com registrars are reputable, have good prices & clean/uncluttered sites.
You can search for available names at any registrar or at domaintools.com. Type in your desired name & see if its available. After you buy a name you have to point the name to your webhosting account.
Hosting: You can get inexpensive hosting at Namecheap, iweb.com and HostGator.com to name a few.
Software: If you want to start a blog you have to upload blog software to your webhosting account. I'd recommend Wordpress.com as the easiest software to use, upload & install.
I hope this helps.
