View Full Version : 20$ Personal Logo Contest

Mar 12th 2008, 2:20 am
Hi All,

I'm opening a contest for a business personal branding logo.

This is going to be a "Peace Of Cake" for the someone who knows what he/she is doing.

I am the Director of Graphic Design for an Internet Marketer.
His name is Narek Gabrielyan.

I want to make your job as easy as possible, so here is some more information:

1) The logo will be used in multiple media, so it must work well on
something as small as a business card and large as a sign.
It must also look good in print and black & white newspaper print,
as well as on the web. In other words, it will be used in our website
and also possibly flyers, business cards and posters, so we will need a
re-sizeable printable format as well. From what I understand,
I will also need it as a vector file.

2) Please do not use gradients or shading. They tend to look “muddy” in newsprint.

3) Colors: I’d like a navy blue and yellow (please only use web safe colors) and stick with two colors.
Sample colors: http://cosida.com/logos/CA/UCLA-Color.jpg

4) The logo should just be the name of the CEO (Narek Gabrielyan),
Initials, or combination – any design elements need to be incorporated
within the font. I don’t want extra graphics outside of the name. Feel free
to show your sophisticated talent.

5) As far as the style is concerned, I want something bold and contemporary.
See sample logos here: a)http://mikefilsaime.com/blog4/cssjs/images/logo.gif
b)http://brianedmondson.com/blog/wp-content/themes/bosco20/images/blogheader1.jpg
(the shield on the right)

8) I’d like to have it without a background too, so I can put it in front of any background.

9) the winner should be able to provide:
a) names of fonts used
b) colors used
c) logo in vector, .psd and .jpg formats

Payment via PayPal on completion.

We reserve the right to not choose any logo if we don't like them, but I'm sure this will not happen.

Competition will remain open for 10 days or until a suitable entry is found.

Any questions please ask in this thread or pm me.

If you intend to enter this contest just drop a line in this thread saying you're going to enter it!

Thanks!
~Greg

NOTE: The background is only for presentation, it'll be delivered with a transparent background (PNG format, since jpg doesn't support transparency).

Thank you for trying to do something.

Just some comments:

@Sanma: The collars are just right, but I am looking for something similar to the sample logos. Meaning, something on a shield. And feel free to experiment with the color placement...

@nwsn3twrkshp: I like the fact that you actually put the initials in an interesting way together. However, I am looking for something with a shield.

possible shapes for a shield: 1)http://payyourdreams.com/logos/templogos/shield1.tiff
2)http://payyourdreams.com/logos/templogos/shield2.tiff

If you find a Royalty Free Image that you could use... show
me, and I will buy it for you to use in the logo...

Looking forward to seeing your feedback...

Ok, my new attempt.

NOTE: I made it using only the 2 colors you mentioned, but adding either black or white to the font (with the yellow stroke) will make it look better, but it's your choice. I can make it like that for you to see if you want.

Thanks to those who posted their work.

Some Feedback:

@untitledstudios: Nice implementation of the G looking like an arrow. It would look better if the end of the arrow was a little bit up so the left wing of the arrow is in horizontal position. That way it is going to look like an arrow and a letter G. Let me know if you could could use different shape for the shield: the ones I showed you. You are quick and grasp what I want really fast.

Your advice: Do you think the intersection of N and G looks like a letter A?

@Solutions: Very impressive. I asked Narek... he likes the left upper one just because it is simple, and he likes the new perspective. About the design: it is a little bit confusing, can't tell whether there is a J, V, or G...

@Sanma: The shield shape is prity close to the one I am looking for. Please feel free to include black or any shade to make it look attractive. Use your expertise and any information that you know that would make it look better. See if you can have a G look like an arrow... see what untitledstudios did...

Web 2.0 type of logos and glassy logos are welcome.

Thanks again,

Greg

Ok, new attempt.
Used 2 fonts, and changed the G to make it look like an arrow as requested.

The example to follow is the one on the top in a green circle here:
http://payyourdreams.com/logos/templogos/examplelogo.tiff

@Sanma: it looks better than the previous one, but it is too simple at this
point. see the examples in my fist post and the one above.

@tGriff: You actually tried to follow the examples. At this point they look too
simple. See the feedback for Sanma above.

Question: How easy it is to make a logo glassy after the plain
version is complete?

@nwsn3twrkshp: It is getting better, I like the shield, good job. However, the
initials are too dry and robotic. Try making the example logo I gave above.
Want to see what you think.

@Gorgon: This is closer... I don't know, but let me ask Narek and get back to
you.

I am excited to see you genius logos,

I can, however, remake it in illustrator as vector if needed.

Hi there,

I asked Narek, and he took a look at the designs, however did not
find anything that "jumps out and says that's it..."

He decided to sketch some specific designs and just have you
put it into digital and nice format. I will submit the sketches
when he forwards them to me...

Some of you asked for feedback:

@nwsn3twrkshp: I it is definitely improved, but the shield and the letters
are not consistent with each other, one is glassy and the other one is plain.
Don't work on this design anymore, Narek is going to draw specific design
he came up with... it is going to be easier... no confusion.

@Gorgon: I don't know why, but it is not it, it is close though to the
explanations above. Read the message I left for nwsn3twrkshp above.

@j0sh097: Nice shield, I like it... it is glassy, that's what we were looking for.
You probably put a lot of effort into it. Don't want to offend you, but the banner is inconsistent with that gorgeous shield because it is stiff and dry.

@untitledstudios: I appreciate your effort to make it better. It is nice, but
not what we are looking for just because it is a little underdeveloped.

Question: What do you think, should I close this thread and start a
new one if there is going to be a specific design for you to draw?

Thank you,

Greg

Thank you for your feedback. Here is a revision that looks less 'stiff' (any jaggedness around the edges can be easily fixed).

Hi all,

This is the update from Narek, I promised you to post a specific sketch
to make it much easier for you to digitalize it in a nice way.

This is the sketch itself:
(The colors on the right for you to see what the color of each component
should be. For your info: the dark blue color that is used is #1b4faa and
the light blue is #406bb8, the other two are white and lite grey, suggestions about
the best combination of color ARE WELCOME)

link: THE SKETCH (http://payyourdreams.com/logos/templogos/logo3.jpg)

Thought: I thought it would be much easier to just draw over the sketch in
a vector format and maintain the proportions, which is very important.
However, I don't know whether it is possible or not.

AND here is an example of the feel it should have, meaning, this is an
example of how the colors should interact and contrast each other, but
it does not mean that you should copy anything from it.

link: THE FEEL OF THE LOGO (http://payyourdreams.com/logos/templogos/logo4.jpg)

If you have any question or suggestion, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you,

Greg

P.S. Yes, the arrow like sign is not really an arrow, it is a shape of a
pyramid in the background so it seems as though the letters N and G
are written on the pyramid.

@vibinhari: I like your style... but it is all about what Narek wants here :)
He is the final decision maker...

@j0sh097: I like your responsivenes, and your shield was the inspiration for the sketch colors above.
Take a look at the post above, you might do pretty well if you can come up with a
nice looking middle (innitials) piece.

This is great. Now, lets play a little bit around it:

1) Make this changes to a copy logo: Make the name on the banner a
little bolder, make the pyramid lines be less noticeable, meaning, try to
fuse it into the background so the initials stand out more. (you can try
different colors for the pyramid lines too, so it all fits together in a
harmonic way. :)

2) In this copy, everything is the same as in #1, except, you can try different
colors for the initials. For example: different shades of yellow. Basically, use
your talent to make it look eye friendly and real like a 3D shield.

You are almost done...

Thank you,

Greg

This is awesome... more logo type... I personally like the left one,
but don't know about Narek.

Ayway...

1) See if you can improve the font of the text on the banner by either
using different fonts to make it look better, or capitalize like here:
LINK (http://payyourdreams.com/logos/templogos/logo4.jpg)

2) See if you can make the ends of the banner slitted into two parts, like
the sketch illustrates.

3) I hope this is in png, so it can be put in front of any color background...

Good job,

Greg

P.S. originality and innovation always pays...
