$50 Portfolio Website Design

Hey Guys,

I am in need of a portfolio page designed. It has to be designed around a logo (see image).

Here is what it must have. I've provided some examples of what i like.-


Front page should have an order button/image. Below it should be the last few designs (thumbnails) and maybe a "see more" link

The first one doesn't match the logo at all.

The second one is not as unique as i want it to be. There are a bunch of sites just like that one that I've seen when I was researching for a design.

I like the third one, but my logo won't fit in that, and that navigation looks awful. I do like the book idea, and I think with some right coding, I could possible have something like that, whre the book opens up, and my designs pop up.

Well, if you know you can do better and just like i want it, you might as well enter, especially if you got the free time. Last time I made this contest, people didnt even enter. This time, I gave lots of examples of what I liked, so I figured it'd be easier, but again, I am hardly getting any response.

Your design looks ok, but I want that big image to be an order type of image. Like when they see it, I want them to want to order. The testimonials should be below the logo and the design and the big box. OH, and I am also not a fan of rounded corners. Don't really like them.

Don't really like your red color as base. I want it be more "at peace" and "calm" then "aggressive"

To be honest, I don't really like it. It's too dark. I guess I should have made this more clear. When I said professional, I meant that I wanted it to be light, so that people don't think it's some goth site or something. Though If you can make it look really good dark, Im fine with that, but I think it would be easier to make it light.

Yeah I think the name of the site should be at the top though, you want people to know they are on the right web site lol. :) Unique doesn't necessarily have to mean the placement, can mean the visual aspect too. I like your design mate :)

I got rid of the black because I thought black and dark red make it look even more DARK, which you don't want.

You're right testimonials are one of the important parts of a portfolio, but this is at the same time, an order type of page. When people come on this site, they would want to order something, and if they need proof of my work, they can look at the portfolio.

DaveyBoy is right about what i meant. I don't care if the layout isn't unique, but I do want the design it self to be unique. You have done that, and Im impressed, but it's just not going to fit what I am looking for in a site.

Try going for something lighter.

I got rid of the black because I thought black and dark red make it look even more DARK, which you don't want.

Well, the logo doesn't fit into that design. I don't want to use this term, but I guess some poeple would understand it this way: The logo is very web2.0, so the design really needs to fit that. The reason I want the background to be a "light color" is because it will make the logo stand out that much more (contrasting colors).

Maybe you can try again if you want.

Hahaha, who better to help me design the portfolio for a logo than the person who made that logo :P. How have you been scorpionagency?

Your design looks cool, but I definately think I want to go with something light. I don't like those gray boxes, so see if you can make it on a white background.

I do like the headers (latest news, testimonials, the order now button) and I like that, well whatever it is, that thingy lol on the order box.

Do you think you could incorporate something like the sidebar menu from graphics.net into it. And I was also thinking about having the order box (the big one, and the few recent designs, taking up that whole part.

The latest news will actually be connected to a blog. It will read out the title, the first post will show up around 100 characters, and the last two will show just the title and date posted. See if you can do that.

The testimonials are right. They should be all the way across the screen. Since i want latest releases to be a small column (half size of the screen) maybe make another column for what I offer with my service? (just a bulleted list will do for now, and then maybe another order button right at the end of that list, slightly smaller.

Try putting the actual logo on a white background. Make that sidebar black, and a little skinner, and put it on the right side. Im not liking that color. The pinkish one. You know that little logo you have in the footer. Turn in 90 degrees, and put it into that black bar on the side (it should be linked to home). The latest news should only take up half the column. I don't like the text going sideways (plus it will be hard to code with WP)

I have to run, when I get back, I'll see if i find anything else that could be changed.

I like the first one more than the second one, but I don't think I want to use images for any text other than my logo and maybe that side menu, so I think I want "Testimonials" and all that other stuff in text (no effects so i can code using css and font). The menu on the side needs more padding. Check out how www.graphics.net looks like.

An extra $10 for the person that comes up with the best image for that spot. Has to fit into the design I choose, or if you are designing, just design that image. Shouldn't be too hard. I think it looks nice, but I like wills design a lot, so I think I will stick with it. I don't know yet, but probably no use continuing on that design.

I am really liking this design as I have mentioned above. Some things I don't like in it though, which I think are stopping me from choosing it as a definite winner.

Maybe I am being to picky, but that menu doesn't catch my attention to much. I think it's not right there. Or maybe it's just me. Try adding a bit more padding to the links, and maybe make the words stand out a bit more somehow. I don't know. But the menu really isn't that big of a concern for me at the moment.

There is also the footer. It seems a tad bit basic. The site you designed looks great, but then you have that footer, and it turns out to be a bit on the down side. Of course, that isn't my main concern either.

What my main concern at the moment is, of course, how the rest of the site would look. Meaning, the home page looks nice, but the way it's designed, I've been looking at it for hours now, on and off, but can't seem to find a good way to make it look good on a single page. Any Ideas?

Shady, you might be right, but because I like wills doesn't mean someone can't come up with a design that I would like even better, right? :P.

At the moment, I like his the most. I will end the contest in 48 hours, that way I will have enough time to set up the site before I go to europe on thursday, which also gives enough time for any straglers to make a new design.

What single pages are you going to include? I'll think up some ideas for each one of them... :) (If you want me to individually create each one of them and make them all pretty I will for a little extra cash. Ideas are free though :D)

For the single pages, Ill need a couple, adn of course i wasn't expecting them to be free. (Im not willing to pay an arm and a leg for them, but if you can pm me a quote for it, if I choose your design, I'll have you make them)

I will need a page for the about. A page for the portfolio. A page for each single project. A page for the blog. And a page for the services I offer (and probably an order form or something on there). I think that's it.

For the footer, maybe if you make it dark, like the top, so that the design isn't too dark heavy at the top, it might look good. (or whatever you were gonna do)

I dont usually pay much attention to the navigation menu because I find that it is impossible to make it look the same coded, as it does in photoshop... so I usually just slap something there. I can spend more time on it if you need me too....

For all the single pages you have I was thinking about having something that could go in the big gray " banner" at top of the page and then something to go in the white space below.


For each project it could be a overview in the "gray banner", and then more specifics in the white space below.
For the blog it could be your featured post in the "gray banner", and then the rest of the posts below.
For the services you offer it could be your "packages" in the gray banner, and then a detailed description of what is standard or whatever in the white space below.
for the portfolio... I cant think of something, but I'm sure there is something cool.

Hope that gave you an idea of what I mean.

ps. if you wanted me to design each page I would probably charge you around $10 - $20 dollars a page... so you have around 5 other pages so $75 extra or so.

For the services you offer it could be your "packages" in the gray banner, and then a detailed description of what is standard or whatever in the white space below.
for the portfolio... I cant think of something, but I'm sure there is something cool.

Hope that gave you an idea of what I mean.

ps. if you wanted me to design each page I would probably charge you around $10 - $20 dollars a page... so you have around 5 other pages so $75 extra or so.

The new one looks pretty cool to with the footer.

Concerning the menu, don't worry about how it's going to be coded. I can code it pretty much exactly as it looks (just depends on the complexity, so more complex will take me longer, but I don't mind). The way you did it now, I don't really like to much. One thing I definately want is for a good "hover/active" effect, if you know what I mean. Like when I hover over it, or on that page, I want it to have a good active effect. Preferably they should have the same effect on each link, that way it's not a lot of code and a big image.

The single page thing sounds nice, and so do your prices. I'll give it another 48 hours, and unless something amazing happens, and someone comes out with a really good design that blows your's out of the water, I'll select your's as the winner.

Sorry, must have missed it. To many images loading, so I just scroll to the bottom. guess I didn't see it.

I think it looks cool, but I just don't see how the logo would fit into that. I mean, it's to hard to feedback somethign so incomplete. It'd be a nice site design though, maybe not for my site, but for somebody elses.
