WordPress vs. Moveable Type

Which is better and why? Is there another platform that you would even put in front of these?

Haven't really tried movable but I love wordpress. It offers great features :)

I suspect it's one of those things that you just have to make a decision and stick with it.

I use wordpress and love it, however I'm sure I'd be just as happy if I'd jumped the other way :)

I love WP. Moveable Type costs money, so IMO you should try WP first, see if you like it, and if not, then you haven't wasted any money. Then try Moveable Type as your next step.

I really like WordPress and run several blogs on it. I have used MT some time ago, I think it was still version 1.something, so I don't really know about current.
If you have really big traffic on your blog and only limited server ressources, MT's pre built static pages might be the way to go. Other than that, I'd allways vote for WordPress.

MT only costs money if you're using it for commercial purposes or are running more than 3 blogs from the same install.

MT is notorious for being insanely difficult to get running. The CMS itself is ridiculously complex and large (the archive is like 2.5MB if I remember correctly). I have a friend who was a programming major and while he got it to run successfully (on the 2nd try), it took like 2 weeks for him to give up trying to figure out how to make a custom template.

I personally swear by WordPress. All my sites run it and I recommend it for projects at work. I like to think of it as modular in that I can pick and choose which features to use. The template system is great to customize and the plugins are easy to create as well.

Am using Wordpress for my first website and I love it! it's easy to learn for a newbie like me and lots of plugin available out there and free. MT? I download once but didn't know how to use it.:rolleyes:

I tried to hire 3 people on a free lance site and 3 times they failed to install MT with addons. I stick with WP

Personally I've never used MT but i must say that I am somewhat surprised that it's so hard to use “ being commercial and all”.
