Overkill on wp-themes

Recently I had a lengthy discussion with a wp-theme designer
What I have been noticing that the overkill on wp-themes is ever increasing, nowadays you see 40-50 new ones every day.
Some are of exceptional quality and some are so very standard.

It looks to me, that in fact the wp-themes makers are killing their own
market, and its becoming a vicious circle.
Too many themes up for auction, less links are being sold, less income for
the makers.
The makers think links are not selling very good, lets make more and more
themes and lets make the links even cheaper so that we at least get
something from them and thus producing only quantity and not so much
quality anymore.

What I am wondering about is, as a buyer of links, what would you do:
Buy 3 cheap links on a not so good design, which mostlikly will not got
much downloads and thus your money is maybe wasted.
Or buy one expensive link for the same prize as the 3 cheap ones(or even
more expensive) on a top-quality design, which mostlikly receive much more
downloads?

I sometimes really think that some designers really dont care about what
they design anymore, but just think of a quick few bucks, and with that
kill the market for the quality-designs, but when it comes down to it, I
think all the designers will suffer from it.

agree with you.
Im not a WP developer/seller BUT i see everyday in DP alot of new WP themes being sold for .... welll, pennies.
same goes for css templates. psd templates etc.

quite disturbing to see a s$#$# template or WP theme for sale for 5$... Maybe thats just a transition. Hope so.

Couldn't agree more.. that's why I seldom join
WP Theme Sponsorship Auctions anymore.
Sponsor wants cheap links.. and i believe that
What I offer my clients are Quality themes that gets impressive number of downloads.

To sponsor my themes can be quite expensive but you get triple and even more
downloads anyway.. so it's totally not wasting money is it?

Hi Feng,

I could not agree with you. While some designers are throwing very standard wp themes, there are still designers that provide high quality wp themes. These designers providing exceptional quality wp themes are very rare, and if you notice, they charge the customer reasonable price for their hardworks ( read= more expensive).
