Mov_evasive on Apache v2.2.8 ?

I haven't tried installing it yet. We've been using apache 1.3.37 so far and I had it installed and working fine. Now I've asked hosting to upgrade us to apache 2 and they did upgrade to Apache v2.2.8.

I noticed it say "mod_evasive for Apache v1.3 and 2.0" at

http://www.zdziarski.com/projects/mod_evasive/

so I was wondering does it work with apache 2.2.8 ?

Well I tried installing it and this apache wouldn't start, this is what I got when I ran syntax check of config files:

httpd: Syntax error on line 36 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf: API module structure 'evasive20_module' in file /usr/lib/httpd/modules/mod_evasive20.so is garbled - expected signature 41503232 but saw 41503230 - perhaps this is not an Apache module DSO, or was compiled for a different Apache version?

So I guess it doesn't work :)

I tried compiling it against the Apache 2.2.8 source headers yesterday with no success.
