View Full Version : @ Admins - URGENT SUGGESTION! This is serious now!

Hi all!
Well, this thing is getting a huge dimension now!
I mean it, and I am really serious here. I haven't been scammed, but I'm with all those that have been scammed and with DP.
DP's reputation might be in risk beacause of a few scammers that 2 months ago started to hack DP accounts using phishing e-mails/PM's
I'd suggest a quick fix for this situation, even though you might think I am nuts!
Create an Urgent announcement, all over the Forums, sugesting that ALL users change their password.
Send a PM and an e-mail to ALL users pointing them to that announcement!
I'd even reset all passwords within a week, if I was an admin, leaving the chance for users to recover those upon request.
I know this might not be enough and I know that scammers will receive that and bla bla, but some action must be taken, because this is more than just Paypal and Godaddy, this is about DP accounts that have been hacked.
I am available to help with any suggestions or whatever is needed to bring peace back to the place!
**More than providing the holly solution (I know it isn't) I am asking for some action and for a lot of brains to help finding a solution... please!**

It's not WHY DO I CARE... it's just I care!
As I have said... I don't have the Holly Grail, this thread is just a heads up to try to find a solution. ;)

Takes alot of time too get the amount of post/itrader/rep that the OP has. Off course DP accounts are vital. People earn alot from this forum.

You can have many paypal and godaddy accounts. You only get ONE Dp account.

true what you both say but you can have 2 DP accounts ( i know its not aloud and no i havent but i know people that have ) people have ones for personal and business, and use them from differant IP addresses and mail accounts the same way you would have differant godaddy and paypal but im pretty sure it would hurt me much more if someone got hold of my godaddy account over my DP

Exactly, and it really does take alot of time and good sales and connections to get you DP profile built up and trusted.
I'm not sure what the solution is but at least Shenron is making suggestions and trying to be proactive so that more people aren't scammed in the coming weeks.

Agreed someone i know has been banned for that exact reason, just finding it hard to beleive that people put all the eggs in one basket and rely on DP that much for an income, there's plenty of other ways to make money, But i do agree that DP does bring in alot of money also, so i dont want anyone to start getting the hump because i said that.
Anyway thats answered what i was wonderering, im off to bed have a good one every body

I think we should just close the B/S/T section.
IMO- that's the best way to restore order.

I am confused what resetting everyones passwords will do. If someone is hacking accounts, changing the passwords will do no good unless you gave out your passwords to someone. If they are smart enough to get your old password, will it take that much more to get your new one? I would think most older members would be smart enough to know that if they followed a link from a PM and it required a password, you would not put one in without looking at the URL address.
This is nothing new, it has been going on all over the Internet. I get at least 40 emails a week asking me to log in to my account at eBay, Paypal, and many more. It has been all over the news for years. You just have to use common sense. If you get one of the PMs, forward it to a mod and they will ban the account. Changing every password will not stop people from sending out these PMs. The only thing that will stop scammers is to shut down the whole site.
EDIT:
I think we should just close the B/S/T section.
IMO- that's the best way to restore order.
And never reopen it? There are always going to be scammers and always going to victims when people do not do their homework and use some common sense. Greed blinds a lot of people when it comes to dealing with people they would not otherwise deal with.

That's just Crazy , Crazy Rob.. LOL
That would be like cutting off a foot that has an athlets foot infection.
The B/S/T section is the most popular area of DP. Without that section DP just wouldn't be the same. I don't think this forum would grow as much as it does and will in the coming years, without the B/S/T section.
There are currently 400 people viewing the BST section.
Compared to the second most popular, General Chat section at 130
And the third is a low-low, 50 people checking out the Google section.

No offense, but shouldn't moderators care... just a little. ? I'm not sure if your smiley face means you are being sarcastic or not? I hope it does. The BST section truely is a vital section of DP.
And you are correct, MD's do have to cut it off sometimes but they usually try all other alternatives first.. lol

Well, well... that was what I wanted to say, but well... :D
Really, I think that there must be some kind of very strict rule to enter that section these days, I'm not sure which, but I really believe something must be done.
And I don't care more about my DP account than I care about GD or PP, I didn't make it clear, the problem is that with all these hacked DP accounts, people keep scamming others and neither PP or GD will even bother to help you.
I've been talking to the mods recently, and if you start digging the BST section you'll notice that 3 or 4 guys have been banned yesterday because of this...
I'll just keep reporting and try to help around.

just be aware of scammer emails in your mail as everyone should be allways aware of anyway :)

Yeah, i think most of the scammer's activities are in B/S/T section, but that is the most important place for those who rely on it, I m a Directory Submitter and earns whatever i can with that business only, if it will be close then i think we will get a great loss here. I Request you guys not go against B/S/T section or to totally close it, Just get some other ideas for the solution and I think most of the people know what is phishing e-mails/PM's and all that.. but for those who are new might get some harm... I think making an announcement will be a good idea. Or adding some descriptions and details in the Welcome PM to every new member :)

How about putting the blame on Al Gore and petition for the Internet to be shut down :) That will definitely end all online scams. You may receive one or two 419 types of letters in the post once in a while but I think that's it.

Completely irrelevant. Google started as a search engine, but it dosen't mean features like Adwords, Maps, etc, aren't valuable assets..
Closing the BST is a bad idea IMO. The positive points of it far outweigh the negatives. There will always be risks when using it, but if people don’t like that, then they shouldn't use it, simple.

What a nonsense " Close B/S/T section " if it gonna happen many people will not use DP anymore especially considering the fact that there are many good alternatives for selling websites and domains , also I think that serious players are avoiding to use DP as their favorite forum and DP stuff should pay attention on that argument , rather then to lose the existing part of members which are still using BST section . DP is a very good place but it's full with scammers I agree , I can say that I'm new member hear compared to others , but I've read too many " I got scammed " threads in here. DP should have very strict rules for those members who are going to to post in marketplace forum , I really think that 25 post is not enough , 250 sounds better for me , also BST section should be private in order not to attract new scammers.

Actually that would cure quite a few of the ills - scammers would have to go elsewhere, moderator workload would decrease by a mile and the load on the servers would drop considerably. If you throw in the 'Politics & Religion' section I would be sorely tempted. ;)

But the BST section has grown so much that if you are in internet marketing you just cannot ignore it and top internet marketers invariably mention digital point forums as a resource site where you can buy and sell in their best selling ebooks.
Maybe spinoff BST into a separe subdomain and retain the original forum as a webmaster thingy.
Lots of marketing newbies have broken their internet virignity in the BST section.:D
