Yahoo and Microsoft should just kiss and make up because right now both of them combined probably do not make up half of what the market share Google holds right now on search. They either need to combine themselves to take on the giant, or both be squashed.

Well he said that he don't see any reasons for Google to acquire Yahoo. I see many. As for the monopoly thing, if Microsoft have a way around it, than i guess that Google have the same way too.
If i remember good,i think that Microsoft was once in deep s*** for Windows,so they have experience with this:)

What a big turn around since 2002 when Yahoo refuse to buy Google for $3 bil:D. It was just 2 years before Google went public and worth $147 bil.

p.s.
If Microsoft do buy Yahoo and make YSM as bad as AdCenter,i will shot myself:)

Feb 9th 2008, 1:03 pm
Its not uncommon........ it happens in this BIDDING Game...... Yahoo knows that Microsoft will buy Yahoo if they increased their price....... so they are increasing the price cozz of demand........... That was the case when TATA bid for CORUS (Stee Company) they increased the bid many times... i guess from 455 to 608 pence.... and atlast they aquired that..... but this will impact negatively on Microsoft Stock....

At the meeting on Friday, the Yahoo board was also presented with options for maintaining the company’s independence, including an advertising partnership with Google that would probably improve Yahoo’s bottom line, people familiar with the discussions said.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/10/business/10yahoo.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

Maybe they would merge adwords and yahoo search marketing - would kind of make PPC easier for us : )

banker0679

it would take time for the merger to be complete. I'm sure everyone would still use yahoo and live separately

I don't see any reason for google to aquire them.

At the bottom of the article it states the possibilty why Google would attempt to acquire Yahoo.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/microsoft_yahoo
Yahoo considered an advertising partnership with Google — an alliance long favored by analysts who believe it would boost the profits of both companies. It was unclear Saturday if Yahoo's plans for boosting its stock price include a Google partnership,

Tudi

1. The title is incorrect, Yahoo rejecting Microsoft is still a rumor.
2. I doubt the feds would make a monopoly charge, Yahoo's value is not in the United States, but on the Internet (and since when do the feds have anything to say there)
3. Dunno, just felt like making a 3.

If I were Yahoo, I wouldn't accept, especially from Microshaft. If anything, to avoid being nixed off the face of the internet in X amount of years, I would pair up with Google or Microsoft to collaborate on the future of the net. Between these three, they have the money and tech. to bring some really cool changes.

You know though, that Microsoft would probably never be for this, since they are superior to everyone. Why would they follow any standard they themselves didn't create?

And even with YPN, Microsoft couldn't compete with Google. YPN is failing hard. It's like Kmart vs. Walmart.

it is premature to predict YHOO is going back to $19 on the news. This is the normal bargainning process. Not only YHOO won't tank to $19, it will run up to $35 or more in the days ahead after shaking out weak hands. Yahoo is playing the upper hand game, they know Microsoft wants them, they know with $10 bil more it won't hurt MSFT a bit. Yahoo wants to be bought too, the objection is on the price.

I don't know about that. I think Yahoo "might" sell if they were offered an over valued price but not much else. Personally, I'd rather see them fold and go bankrupt before being bought out.

Competition is good for any industry so if you take out one of the main competitors then in the long run it might hurt us small folks.

Simply put, google will never buy yahoo, and yahoo wil never sell to google. In addition, microsoft also will not buy yahoo for 40 per share, its not an investment that way, its suicide. Search is looking like its going to be monopoly field, where as the leader in search because of all the searches done on its site will be able to better adjust search algorithms which will continue to attract more people. I wouldn't be surprised if google market share of search increased from 54% today to around 80% within the next five years.

Yahoo! is not stupid ... they are just trying their chances for more money. Yahoo! knows if Microsoft is desperate then they will offer higher amount, that's Yahoo! want.

Again if Microsoft is not buying them finally, Google will come forward to help them ( as I read in some article that they might have a partnership with Google in advertising ) and rescue from sinking as Titanic.

Yahoo is SOOOO Stupid. A 60% over current value cash offer..like they are going to BUILD value. Dumbasses.
Search marketing is dying, search biz is dying..watch..they will do what AOL did with google..have Google take over search and adverts, then get dumped on the renewal with google owning them outright for pennies.
Who runs this company? Absurd how they operate- Id LOVE to meet the wizard behind the curtain at yahoo and just rip them up and down. My 8 year old could run this company better.

My 8 year old could run this company better.

When was the last time you 8 year old was offered forty billion dollars?

You obviously don't know their reasoning behind declining (nor does anyone on internet, we can only assume). What if they're sure that Microsoft will raise their bid? They'd be idiots to accept the first offer in that case.

That is still no official news, some leak of the news but I haven't seen any official response yet, I guess they might be trying to do this to up the price that Microsoft have to pay.

Yes, I found that curious too. Just a quick note that was hardly noticed...and, yeah, no official word from either side.

But if Yahoo rejected Microsoft and they did it for more money...that's a major gamble considering their shares are dropping like heavy rocks. Not to mention just how badly their webhosting and email service is doing for actual users (me)!

But to think that Google will place a bid - at this stage if Yahoo was to accept such a bid from Google that would be the ultimate embarassment, in my view. They'll be slapping their own faces!!

Cant wait to see the final outcome.

But come to think of it, this may be a major play from Yahoo to boost their share prices. I'd certainly not sell their shares now. If that much money is rejected, then its only because something is happening in the background that we're not aware of.

Meantime, yahoo users (liek me) grit teeth at the crappy state of their service.

I'll tell you what the real headache here is. I work on a mac. I've tried with firefox, camino and safari to make the new yahoo email work properly for me to no avail. I have serious problems accessing my yahoo mail because it stalls constantly. I dont know if everyone is having the same problem but i'm beginning to think that i'm a persona non grata for using a mac!!!?

Funny thing is, I cant access my inbox because it stalls, but their ads always show rather nicely on the page!!
So i switched to the classic version to see if i could see my inbox. When I made the swtich, a box appears asking me for feedback on how i like their service...they got my feedback alright. I gave them a piece of my portuguese mind!

Whoever is thinking of taking over yahoo, i beg you to speed it up. i am suffering with their horrid system right now!

I hope microsoft doesnt buy yahoo. Microsoft tends to screw up alot anyways. I dont find them reliable and I dont want them to screw up a part of the internet. Imagine logging on to yahoo and seeing the message "this program has performerd an illegal operation and will be shut down". lol.

Companies like Asus are starting to move away from microsoft and use linux. It saves alot of money for both asus and consumers.
Imo, microsoft's OS is overpriced.
In the future, imo, microsoft's OS wont be as dominant as it is now. Its time companies wake up a little and move away from microsoft.

And i hope some things get done so google doesnt get even bigger and the feds do their job and prevent google from acquiring yahoo if they try it.

Google is Yahoo Number 1 enemy, so to do an alliance is a bit strange, but if Microsoft take over they pocket a huge sum of money. I would opt for the money in my pocket rather than sleeping with the enemy.

Google can't buy them since they already monopoly in the market. Regulators will block the deal. Even MS also they have to go through the antitrust case. Its better yahoo be alone. They are lot better than MS.

It is hard for Microsoft to overpay because they have to satisfy their shareholders too. And I think Yahoo independent financial advisor already advised them to take up even at $31, and now they want $40. Microsoft may want Yahoo badly, but whether will it be that badly remains to be seen.

I think Yahoo's rejection is mostly a dog and pony show. What other options do they really have? If Microsoft can't get them at the price they want, they'll just do a hostile takeover. They really don't care about the bad press. Their reputation is already cutthroat enough.

dspohn23
Feb 12th 2008, 7:39 am
Microsoft will not do a hostile takeover. If they do, then many of the big people over at Yahoo, might just leave the company. Microsoft will keep making bids until Yahoo accepts one of them.

RavenMaven
Feb 12th 2008, 8:45 am
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Microsoft already own part of Google?

Microsoft will only resort to a hostile takeover if Yahoo doesn't yield.

I hope that does not happen, however; Microsoft thinks they're all that and a bag of chips. They need to be taken down a notch or two.

my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

The bottom line is this: Yahoo, even though they aren't making the money that they should, STILL knows more about making a site that people will actually visit than Microsoft. If you don't believe that, remember Ms. Dewey still floating in webspace somewhere (great idea, MS). Yahoo just need to concentrate on Web 2.0 and user-powered social ideas and platforms that people will be more drawn in to, instead of trying to be a information portal. They should have realized the potential of this approach with the success of Answers, but somehow, they've missed it. MSN and Yahoo are both website models that have played out..

I'm glad Yahoo didn't agree to Microsoft's bid. Just the thought that there would be no Yahoo, is unthinkable. I grew up with Yahoo, and I believe the Web should always be standing on 3 legs. Yahoo and MSN, will never lose their kingdoms to Google...provided they specialize in, and emphasize on what they do best.

A tripod is theoretically the most stable platform, that is if the 3 support are equal, problem is google's too long and yahoo is too short, I am worried if Yahoo does not take up Microsoft's offer they may lose out eventually.
