Fade and change effect

In the main page of Yahoo Answers (answers.yahoo.com) there's an area where featured answers are shown.
Those answers are in layers that fade and change.
They are obviously taken from the db but I just need to know how to make layers fade and change.

A similar effect buy.com has but it's made with flash.
I want to make the same effect with ajax.
Could you help me?
