I like BlogWise (http://www.blogwise.com) and Blog Rankings (http://www.blogrankings.com), although I can't figure out how to ping them to get on their updated blog list.

This is the owner of Blog Rankings. Just letting you know that blogwise.com pulls its list of recently updated blogs from http://blo.gs, they don't have a ping service themselves. I will be incorporating the same thing soon using the feed from http://blo.gs, so if you want to show up on the recently updated list from blogwise or Blog Rankings, that is the place to do it.

Excellent, thanks for this service. I'm not sure if b2evolution automatically pings blo.gs or not. But, I'll look into it.

TwisterMc, hopefully more people will post directories and SE's in this thread. Sure, anyone can do a search, but you never know who actually tends to their site like blogrankings.com
