I am considering submitting my site to this directory. Is it worth the money? Has anyone who is listed in this directory seen any real benefits? thanks!

yes, it is worth if you submit to a category where there is no crowded links. Though their fee is quite high, i dont think it would be a waste.

Thanks for the response. The category I would be placing my site in has 12 links.. Is that considered crowded?

No, that would not be considered crowded, but if you ask me i will go for a page where no. of links is immaterial , what i will look for is the type of other sites the page is giving links to. If those sites are quality sites , then yes, i will like to have a link in it.

I am sure Stuart's answer would be yes.. haha
But seriously - are you looking for PR or traffic from the directory? I believe buying PR is not something Google endorses... but then again, that isnt to say that it doesnt work in some cases.
(I am talking as "in general", as I have not bought a link from Site-Sift, but I do envy the directory... it's very well laid out)

I would be looking for PR since I don't believe you get much traffic from a directory unless of course site-sift is the exception. I never really thought of it as "buying a link" but I suppose that is what I would be doing if I submitted.
I still haven't heard anything solid evidence in favor of submitting so I am still unsure here.....

We have a couple sites listed on there. I think it's worth it :)

I would submit my site to site-sift if I wanted the traffic.
Are you saying you can get real traffic from site sift?

There aren't many directories I know of where you can get on a category page with a PR6, and not too many outbound links. Worth it, IMO.

12 links on the page is NOT crowded. So long as you get a first page listing it's DEFINATELY worth it in Site-SIft, and really it's worth it even on deep pages. Don't expect to get any real traffic, but it's great for PR.

site-sift.com is in my number #1 package and I recomment it to all my clients.
http://www.seocompany.ca/directory/web-directory-submission-service.html
site-sift.com ranks quite low on the quality of its inbound links compared to other directories.
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=69310 (135 points).
As far as submitting for the PR vote, most SEO experts hold that there is little or no ranking weight in PR. SO unless you need PR for bragging rights or you want to pump up your page PR so you can sell links to people who don't know PR has little or no ranking weight I would say that you shouldn't be picking where to get inbound links from based on the PR of the site or page your link will come from.
I will no longer say site-shift:
site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift site-sift
And yes I typed those all in by hand.

Good point, Bob. The way I look at it is, if it turns up on Google as a backlink (and site sift certainly does), then it's worth being listed with.
The PR thing is a bonus, and while there isn't a direct benefit in terms of ranking, it's still a reasonable (and quick) guide to whether a directory has decent link pop.

>>>The way I look at it is, if it turns up on Google as a backlink (and site sift certainly does), then it's worth being listed with.
Googles link command that shows inbound links or backlinks, is broken. It only shows about 5% to 10% of the total inbound links that Yahoo's linkdomain commmand shows. I wouldn't go by Googles link command at all. I would see if they show up in the Yahoo linkdomain command.

I agree on the quick guide. It gives you a rough idea of how many inbound links the page or site has and how many inbound links the pages have that the inbound links come from.

Your site's listing in relevant category with not crowded links (20 links per page) is really worth.

Site-sift's listings have been instrumental in increasing the site-siftiness of my sites that need sifting.

Hey smindsrt, how about a free submission to your directory since my curiosity about your service has given you a lot of great pr on this forum and the 'other' forum? ;)
Hey, it was worth a shot asking, right? Okay, maybe a just a discount? :D

According to this site's review:
http://www.best-web-directories.com/paid-directories.htm
A well designed site. Their have sponsored listings that appear above the regular paid listings.
Sep 2005: This site was recently re-indexed by Google after being banned for a week or two. I can't seem to find any evidence that the site is ranking well.
Mar 2006: Site still not ranking well in in Google search results
They give it 2 stars out of 5.

I used to submit to Site Sift, but I do not like how they add your site in decending order so your site appears last. Plus they really cranked up the prices as well.

-descending order is the fairest.. it allows for people who submit first to stay near the top. (more so.. a thank you to long time customers) BTW.. there is always the Sponsored Listing option.
-raising the price was the best thing we have done... it prevents people from submitting there spammy shitty sites to our directory.
Our directory is not for everyone... if you want to be in a directory that is for everyone then I think you will find plenty of them out there that accept every site that is submitted... we are not like that!
One thing you will also find in our directory is some of the top online brands around. A few we have added for free b/c we felt the quality was great but then you will find some of the top online sites that have paid for a review:
http://www.eharmony.com/
http://www.carsdirect.com/
http://www.autobytel.com/
http://www.realestateabc.com/
http://www.seoinc.com/
http://www.libertymedical.com/
http://www.motortrend.com/
There are many more... I'm just too lazy to look. My point is... we are not for the little webmaster that wants there site in every directory know to man... and we DO NOT include all sites! Site Sift is not for everyone. ;)
Hey if you have the money that can spend on submitting your site to Site Sift, I'd say go for it. :) The directory has such high rankings and traffic that you can only receive and see positive results.

not meant to be offensive... I just want everyone to understand that Site Sift is not for everyone. Most people that submit for the purpose of PR are really submitting for the wrong reasons. :)

Site-Sift is the one of the best values out there for directory submissions.
I had a new site that was 2 months old, with no inbound links. I submitted to site-sift just before bigdaddy. That site went from a PR0 to a PR4 when bigdaddy kicked in. Site sift was the only dir I had submitted to.

Its my favorite directory, many categories with few links which is very beneficial imo. The price helps it keep it this way so im glad the price is this high.

If I want to submit to one of the smaller catagories (7 links now) is it still beneficial? The catagory is only a pr4 itself.
