i think this is normal.. to get an accurate # have you checked in Google webmaster tools? my site shows 8000 yahoo backlinks and around 200 google backlinks

Depends on the source of those links. If you're doing blog postings, which are general nofollow, then yes, Yahoo counts them and Google doesn't. Also, I've noticed several free directories showing on Y! but not on G.
I have the same issue. I was wondering if Goooooooogle was just slow.

It's simple
Google shows 1% ot backlinks and updates them at 3-4 months
Yahoo shows like 80%

To improve your backlinks further, try Qassia. They help you get traffic and give you REAL backlinks for everything you do. In return, they're building up a huge information such as Wikipedia.
There's a new site called Qassia where you can submit information and facts (doesn't have to be a long article, it can be a few sentences and on any topic imaginable, as long as it's true information) and you get backlinks on your profile and for every "intel" you submit. Currently they're closed to open entries and only allow sign-ups for other member profiles, so you can sign up here: http://superblogging.qassia.com/
Backlinks galore! :) Let me know if you need help with it, the sooner you get in the better.

It took more than 2 months for my links to show in Google. Google just tend to take a MUCH longer time than Yahoo.
Have you tried the google webmaster tools? They will show you the updated links.

google is slow but it crawls properly and does a wonderful job. Whereas yahoo pops up frequently and does a medium/ok job.
