View Full Version : Does Yahoo Answers Pass PageRank/Affect Google SERPs
I answered a couple of questions related to a site I help run, http://oversite.org on Yahoo Answers, and noticed that my link ended up on a PR6 page. Is there anyway that I can have the "nofollow" tag removed from this answer by contributing more or doing something?
Thanks.

The links are rel="nofollow" and pass no page rank. Answering questions is for any resulting direct traffic the answer may get, not for helping you with google SERPS.

links from yahoo answers are useless regarding PR, its impossible to remove nofollow tag, only yahoo can remove no follow tags, no one else can do it:cool:

I wonder if having an account with Yahoo helps in Yahoo SERPs?! Any ideas?

It helps, if you add a sitemap. It's like an invitation for Yahoo to mini ddos your site. They will crawl like over 1GB a day.

Are Yahoo Answers backlinks disappearing? Links in answers or sources section are not clickable anymore. Just plain text now. Is this a new thing with yahoo answers?

It seems as though the links have disappeared beetle, whether it's temporarily or not, remains to be seen. A lot of people seem to have been spamming Yahoo answers lately, and this might have something to with it. If anybody else can provide more information, it would be appreciated.

Yes just checked it now, all the links have been de-activated & now the user has to copy paste the link on to the browser, so the question of nofollow or the link juice is all gone now.

Wow that sucks more than it being nofollow

The whole NO FOLLOW tag is a complete waste..
Some search engines like GOOGLE and YAHOO...sometimes will IGNORE a no follow link.
FOR example....if you have a WIKI link....it will be followed....even though they use NO FOLLOW...
I have a wiki link for one of my sites...and yahoo shows it as a backlink for my site.

Yahoo shows almost all backlinks, and even Google Webmaster Tools display nofollow links sometimes, but the key question is whether they pass PR and increase SERPs. So far the answer is no.

Yahoo seems to ignore no_follow more often than Google, especially on links coming from a yahoo domain. I think if Google sees too many no follow links, it will put your site/page in the blog index. A few of my pages with a lot of no-follow backlinks ended up at the top of the Google blog searches for certain keywords and but only in the general ranking for MSN and Yahoo. Of course, most of my pages rank low still so maybe I'm reading it wrong.

Links are working again now, it was a temporary problem, Yahoo did mention this in their blog.

I think that IF search engines index any link to be your backlink..then it WILL pass page rank.
Otherwise it makes no sense....because in that case they wouldnt use it in the first place....Why index and show a link as a backlink when its not passing page rank? It wont make sense!

A nofollow link has only one thigns associated with it:
It does not give you the PR advantage.
However, the Google Bot DOES follow through the link and will use it to index a website, but will NOT pass any PR juice on it.
As such, posting may get you indexed, but won't help with the SERPS.

Yahoo Answer is pretty targeted. So when you use this services don't expect the backlink but more focus on the traffic you get. make sure your site has pretty good content and usually they will response well. and I have found that is better you put your link just in the profile. putting your link on the resource box or answer will later be reported as spam by the other users.

Yahoo Answers is a good place to acquire free nofollow one way links. Currently, Google gives backlink credits for any of the nofollow links from Yahoo Answers. By the way, the targeted traffic from Yahoo Answers is also free. :-)
Do the SEO today and go answer some questions.
