Well you can increase backlinks to your site by submitting it to directories, relevant link exchange, unsurp your competitors backlink and place your site in them, write articles about your site and submit them to article directories, create some useful content or tools that other people wants to link to, create a blog for your site and post useful content in it, put your website in signature of forums postings, you can do the same with feed as well, RSS creation and submitting them to RSS directories, utilizing social bookmarks and social network sites, write press releases.

if you have a budget for spending backlinks , i suggest you to use paid directories. if you dont want to pay for the backlinks, you can use free directories. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=315153 is good list for free directories
