What do you submit your site to directories specifically for? backlinks or traffic. My site is about a year old and I didn't submit to many directories besides DMOZ (still not in it yet) but yet i'm a pr 6.

Should I now take the time to submit to all those directories or would it just be a waste of my time?

Directories are for backlinks, traffic will be very minimal. Directories are good for new sites just starting out and needing some backlink boost. For your 1-yr-old and PR6 site, I would say it'll benefit u much more if u put the time to gaining natural backlinks.

Or even better, just pay someone to do the directory submission. :)

for a pr 6 site, my traffic is not up to par. I'm looking for more methods to increase traffic i guess

Submitting to directories hasn't done much at all for me in the way of increasing traffic, and I've spent hours submitting my sites. Most of the traffic to my sites are from search engines.

Directories can provide you natural and permanent one way linking. but for that directories should have at least PR. If you are submitting to site having no PR. OR Even not indexed by Google than that will worthless.

It might help you a little too if the keywords in the title of the link you are submitting rise in rank for your site.

Kniveswood is right. If you need good traffic then optimized your site for search engines or buy some text or banner links on high traffic websites.

Enjoy.

i wouldn't say it's a must... but i'd definitely say, "why not?"... i can't think of any reasons that would negatively impact your site...

Submitting to every directory you come across isn't considered essential, but it doesn't take 5 minutes to go through the submission procedure, and it means you will end up with extra backlinks at the end of the day. :)

Directories can give you HUGE traffic. The traffic is not direct from them but it will boost you in SERP results which will give you the traffic.

We have a PR3 website and we are thinking of adding a web directory feature to it.

Is it really worth to add a web directory feature to our website?

Also if we go for a reciprocal link with PR 0 websites will they hurt our website PR?

I was about to ask the same question about what the benefits we'll get from web directory.

I am trying to drive more traffic to my blogs. It is the most difficult task to do.

Is submitting to directories a must?

Answer: NO

You can also do social bookmarks, relevant blog links, forum links and various other metrics
that can help raise your search engine ranking... BUT Directories are the easiest
and fastest way off getting attention to your website from the SEs as they are indexed
regularly. Providing you submitted to that directories "proper" category its a positive vote
that your site is actually what it is and that it was reviewed by a human. On rare occasion
a directory can also send you some traffic from its visitors that are looking for specific info.

I hope this answers the question at hand... ;)

thx
