The site uses mambo and phpbb with quite an integrated look and operation.

The bane of a large number of sites now days is lack of containment and excess negative space.

Containment being text and items not being kept in seperate boxes from other information, namely the different articles on your front page.

Your excess negative space lies at the bottom of your main page and to the right of each of your pictures. Easy methods of avoiding this can be performed, such as aligning text to the right of a picture or wrapping around it instead of placing directly under it.

thanks for the comment, one of the issues is that this is a content lead site, with authors contributing with an ethical point to make, hence design is not at the forefront of things.
