View Full Version : Do you have a blog?

I'm curious to see how many members here actually have a blog.

Select yes if you have a blog, had a blog, or have managed a blog.
Select no if you don't have a blog and don't intend to start one.

Are there any favorites apps for blogs? We use php and adsense in our sites and been thinking about getting one started. Our sites are heavy on images. Are there any better suited for this type of blog?

I've even set up a couple of my content sites with MovableType. Each individual page (post) generated is nice for SEO.

Just need to get myself in gear and get it started... It seems that the first step is allways the toughest :)

I've had a blog in some shape for form for a few years now, unfortunately I got screwed over when Upsaid (http://www.upsaid.com/) decided to close free accounts. I used Greymatter for a while before writing my own PHP/MySQL-based system.

I also have a Livejournal somewhere, although I never really use it, only have the feature so I can put some people's LJs on my friends list and see all the updated posts easily. :)

I have a "few" I use to add fresh content to some of our sites daily. I use Blogger.com to manage the blogs, but 90% are hosted on the domains themselves

I have about 10 blogs. Some are updated pretty regularly for business purposes like www.gettermlifenow.com/wordpress (http://www.gettermlifenow.com/wordpress) and others are general musings and trying to help other bloggers get links, like the one at Blogs for Buds (http://blogsforbuds.blogspot.com).

While I am on topic, I just posted a new link to a site that has a VERY INTERESTING twist on the concept of "Six Degrees of Separation" and "Pay it Forward" -- Check it out by clicking on www.Daniel-Gutschenritter.com (http://www.Daniel-Gutschenritter.com). Forward that link to as many people as you can and lets get the good vibes rolling!

Peace,

I have 3 blogs, with 3 more in the works. I found b2evolution (http://b2evolution.net) to best fit my needs as a blog app. It's pretty much SEO'd out of the box.

One of my new blogs will actually be a forum fed blog. Meaning I'll be installing phpbb and having a full forum powered site, but the first page will be blog format from an admin only sub-forum. Just working some bugs out, but it should be pretty cool.

hey youghistorians, why don't you use the "latest blog post" feature in your CP?

I've never seen http://b2evolution.net/ before. Do you like it? The first blog I saw that used it said "F*ck it" and they changed to WordPress. ;)

Because for some reason the feature doesn't like my MT feed.

I don't have a blog, but I do like to write (only when I'm in the writing mood). Maybe when I'm not so busy I'll consider starting one.

Yeah, that's the next phase. Once the setup is configured, we'll start scouting for some quality beta members to test it. (the whole site will be free though, I hate pay sites).

I have a lot of blogs! I was on blogger but have most switched over to wordpress now. I use them to archive my ezines and for content as well depending on the site.

I was using blogger - but decided that if I'm going to start recording massive amounts of data - I want to completely control it - so I'm hosting my own blog....

i actually have 2 blogs - 1 created using wordpress for my wife and the other hand-coded using tables (i just prefer the flexibility i get from coding my own blog :))

I have 2 blogs. Both on blogger. Templates makes it so much easier for me as I don't have to worry about coding. Best part.... blogger allows Adsense :D

I added a Blog hack to my phpBB, so now all any registered member of the board can have their own blog to do with as they choose. I'm using it mostly to keep notes on different things and such.... figure the worst that can happen is I get a higher page count with mostly relevant content (compared to the rest of the site). So far it's working out quite well...

Really? That's interesting. Can each blog float in it's own directory (or subdomain even)? Can you point me to the hack?

They live separately from one another, but by table entries alone, bet you could hack on it a bit to do other things though.... extremely flexable in design and controls... the fella that is writing the code is very good.

You can see them in action on my board in my sig. If you want to goof with it before commiting any changes to your board just register and it'll allow you create one. If you want one or need another blog to do cross blog linking and stuff by all means have at it (open to anyone, just stay in the G-PG ratings)

The hack itself and some docs are at vince.dynalias.com/blog/

I had a blog using dasBlog (http://www.dasblog.net/) and have also looked at .Text. I also just started one on Blogger. MovableType is very nice as well.

I think that blogs are bringing down the quality of content on the web as a whole. Yes, some are good, but like people are saying, they're too easy for anyone to make.

TwisterMc

It's not blogs bringing down the internet. It's crap directories in my opinion.

they're too easy for anyone to makeI just don't get that.

The nature of the web isn't elitist.

Why would making it easier for people to publish their thoughts and opinions online be a bad thing?

I started one now too. Will get the links up once I tweaked the lay-out and filled it with some posts.

Couldn't stop thinking about what to post next after the first post. Weird because I know there's no visitors yet but I do run a few websites with 10K+ daily hits and tweaking that doesn't excite me at all... Must be the novelty of it.
