and yahoo etc

Hi all,

Couple of question concerning indexed pages by the SE's.

1 How to check this? I use google sitemaps and I see for google you use

site:www.yourdomain.com

2 I notice one of my website just returns 3 page :( and it's been on the net for 6 years. (Must say I have changed servers recently and redesigned a couple of times over the years) What can I do?

3 An other site returns a couple more indexed pages but they are almost my start.php page???

4 How can I make sure my archives pages for instance are being indexed??

Tx in advance

There are lots of reasons why your site is not indexed, but if they have been online that long, my guess is it is a technical reason (unspiderable navigation etc. Post a link and I can take a look

Build lots of links to your pages from other websites and google will visit it more often and index more of your pages.

Google won't normally index pages if they are not linked from other pages of your site so you need to make sure your navigation is easy for google to follow.

Post the url if you want me to take a look.

hi guys, here's the link

http://www.gotoandplay.com/

oh just checked yahoo and yahoo indexed 437 pages of my website, I am glad with that.

Another question for crawling is it important how the permission of your files are set (chmod)???

oh man,

feeling really stupid here

I checked google again and I didn't notice

n order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 3 already displayed.
If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.

Now I see google indexed 482 pages

Remains the file permission question (this is for another website)

The chmod permissions on your server do not affect the way spiders spider.
One thing though, you ahve got the same description tage for every page on your site, I would advise you change this as it is not best practice.

old welsh guy, very good point. Will do that, tx.

About my file permissions question I have created a couple of static .html pages with php fwrite. But most of them don't show up if I am using an online sitemap generator. So I checked the file permission and saw they differ and I changed the permissions the same as the .html files that do show up in the generator.

But still with no luck.

My thinking path: If the online generator can't crawl/spider all my pages googlebot can't either.

Any suggestions?

btw I tried several online generators.

You need to make sure the pages are unique like Old Welsh Guy said.

Use different titles, content, meta tags and h1 tags for each page and google will show all the pages without you having to view the omitted results.

I did things that make my site indexed well by Google

1. Built links from free directory and some-authorities site.
2. integrate sitemap
3. make sef url

Google indexed my site for 20,000 - 22,400 depend on each DC

:( However, Yahoo and msn indexed my page much more less than Google. I don't know why??
