Hi everyone.
I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for very low cost web hosting companies.
I have a number of sites I need to get online and would prefer if they were hosted on different IP ranges. The more suggestions the better. Cheers guys...

One thing I would be wary of would be basing your decision solely on price. Better to pay a little more for a good hosting company.

Precisely as shaws said - there are a range of compare sites out there.
Make sure you know what you want shared (ratio), semi, dedicated, shared IP own IP, location US, Europe, Asia .... tools like cpanel mail subdomains mysql bandwidth tripple feed into DC's etc. UNIX Windows SUN... so much choice...
That decides you choice.

PS reverse lookup / tracert gives you a good idea who hosts where.....

Sorry, I should have been more detailed.
Very little actual space is needed, (5 megs will do) no serverside includes, shared/own IP (either way is no big issue).
Bandwidth... 500megs/1GB/month.
Really something simple.
No frills...
Windows, Unix, whatever....
As lost as it's SE friendly, I dont mind.
FTP a must. At least 1 mail account. online or pop3 - no big deal either way...
Cheers for the quick responses guys

I think SEbasic has a lot of content and set up a mini site type network, but has Google paranoia about hosting all your sites from the same IP.
I do the same thing.... I have Google paranoia too

I recommend http://www.handsonwebhosting.com/ because they've been so good to us.
We have a special resellers account with them and that hosts our 6 or so domains. I believe they are all on one IP address though, so you will have to ask about that.
Other than that they are great. Good customer service, great CPanel with AWStats, Urchin, Webalizer, and others all free/with your account, MySQL, PHP, UNIX servers. check them out at least.

Read the links in my sig. We have two IP blocks on our server. We are located in Canada and so have a price advantage over US hosting companies. PM me about your exact requirements. We can probably work out a deal.

People were squeeling link a stuck pig last year regarding Godaddy. Check out SEOchat for particlars.
I had all my accounts running on same host, different IP's but all were on came C class. Host quit providing the reliable service they once gave so I started moving accounts. As I moved accounts page rank on moved accounts went up and back links on moved accouts that had disappeared from Google started reappearing. It could all be circumstancial evidence but it makes me want to spread hosting around.
To me this is sad for if you have a reliable responsive host it is so much easier to continue to deal with them exclusively.

Thank's for all the helpful suggestions guys.
Sorry Shawn, I didn't mean to turn the tread into an advertising column. Hope your not too mad... (should have thought about this a little better before I posted).
Anyway, like I say, I really appreciate all your help!

we use www.ev1servers.net
great stuff, but expensive.
we pay 100$ a month for 1TB of transfer and 60 gigs of hd space.

$100 for 1TB of transfer doesn't seem terribly expensive to me. What sort of bandwidth throughput are you able to get?
disgust
May 26th 2004, 11:19 am
it's not throttled, it's on a 10mbps server as far as I know.
I know it's not expensive for what you get, but considering that we need only roughly a quarter of that, it's kind of a lot of money.

We need to move one of our accounts, so I'm going to trial them. Thanks for the recommendation.

I too have a server with space available and I have eight IP's. It's a windows server so if your doing asp, you'll be good to go. Let me know if your interested and I'll shoot you some prices.

Read the warnings on the earlier post - price is not everything.
I recently moved my host because a) they could not execute cgi scripts for some reason and b) there site stats were cr*p
I went to a forum and got recommendations and changes.
In 2 months site has been down 3 times and I never had that with my other host - every time I phone up to report this (because hosting company said WE should be monitoring) I get an arrogant 18 y/o ar*ehole.
Just be careful - not sure how to find a really good host though (we're in the UK)
SEbasic
Jul 28th 2004, 1:47 am
we're in the UK too.
Have run on loads of different servers over here. Had some good deals and some bad ones... It's just great having a list of places to go next. I would rather only have one site per server - Parranoia I know, but better safe than sorry.

...for UK hosting I use two providers - both are bang stable
hubnut.net (up north & US)
titanhosts.net (telehouse London)
both have very fast routing within UK
M
PS For business accounts I control DNS via third party (never with the provider) with a 4 hour refresh. If it fails and I don't get an immediate response I switch and I send them an ivoice, which one can't do with a free one.

Do you get your own domain name? What's the catch? :)
http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/ looks cool too. Is there really unlimited domain names? Or is that just sub domains?

You got to have your own domain.
The catch is a small text link must be put on your site and your site must be in English.

"webhostingbuzz.com looks cool too. Is there really unlimited domain names? Or is that just sub domains?"
"You got to have your own domain" True
"The catch is a small text link must be put on your site and your site must be in English." Not true
I have two accounts with WHB, and you can have unlimited add-ons and unlimited subs (and unltd emails etc etc etc). One thing to note is that if you use FP you will need a reseller/webmaster account with WHM panel as FP does not work properly in add-ons, then you can set up as many domains as you like each with their own CPanel. If you don't use FP the basic accounts are brilliant.
