I've been working on this site for a while and recently added some CJ affiliate banners.

I'm interested in your feedback regarding placement and layout please

main page: www.MichiganClassics.com

There are more CJ banners on the LINKS page

Thank you in advance

Positives:

Simple and easy to read

Suggestions for improvement:

You've got waaay too much white space at the top to the right of your logo - this prevents you from putting more of your important content before the user has to scroll down. You never want them to scroll to see your most important stuff.
I guess this is a mockup because the story links dont work? Since they are not formatted it makes it hard to judge the site
Same with the feature partners section - put in some fully formatted sample partner images or text so we can give you a good opinion

thank you.

I see what you mean about the white space up top. I can work on that.
This page is production. The feature links do work, I just tested them.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'fully formatted sample partner images', can you please clarify? I am using the code directly from the CJ site.

1. Put the wide banner to the top
2. Put the menu bar under it, to the right of the image (it just fits in).
3. Put the Feature Partners banners vertically, top-to-bottom, on the left side of the page, so that the text would be on the right.

That way you'll use more space on the page and visitors will need to scroll less.

BTW, the links after "Features include:" really don't work. Are they meant to be links?

thank you. I plan to make some updates later this week.

No, the data under 'Features include" are not meant to be links. I was referring to the links under "Feature stories"

The banner next to the header looks a right eyesore. Really spoils the site for me. Why not put the banners to the side or in a sidebar? The actual header graphic looks great and a few words for the title next to it, explaining what the site is about would be spot on!

Very strange. My original post here ended up on a forum linked below. I have never visited the forum below but saw the traffic going to my site.

What is this?

I like the color maroon with white background.

However, there is too much white?

Try to put some more stuff on your top right corner - maybe a light background using css?

Well site looks nice. Logo is detailed. THe forum is different then the design of the other pages, but thats not a big deal. The site overall is okay. But the there is a lot of white space.

OK.
I modified the overall background color from white.
I created hyperlinks under the heading 'Features include'. Previously those were just text.

The purpose of this page is a main page to redirect visitors to the other content. Do you think this is a bad idea?

Very simple layout . That works fine with me . Try adding borders to your frames .
THis will give a better look to your contents.

Site looks good. The ads should be placed on the side.

note, it doesn't look good. You need to put more work into it.

I'm aware of that, hence the reason for the thread.
What are your suggestions?

I like the simple design. However, the design is a bit 'out-dated' as in it looks to simple for this day and age. Try incorporating more, while maintaining the simplicity.

100% is nice, logo is nice, too much white everywhere in my opinion though.

Yes, difinately way too much white space. I would suggest changing that top table to use a full sizer header banner as the table's background in order to conceal that whitespace. It also seems very plain. Maybe instead of the bullets, you can replace the bullets with a small whitewall image as a .gif file to save bandwidth. Maybe if you could find one from like a Belaire wheel. That would look nice and fit in with the scheme, while at the same time, keeping it a minimalistic look and also sticking to the theme of the site. I would also suggest some type of cascade style sheet color change on the nav bar, you cant tell if you are on the link. It will also add some more color to the site while at the same time make the site's navigation a little cleaner.

Here is another version: http://www.kooldezine.com/mc/

What do you think?

I've learned how to use dwt templates in FrontPage to make my life easier. Once I get a main template created, updates will be easier to implement.
