View Full Version : URGENT: I need to know - do rotating banners affect my PR?

OK,

Basically - I've been building links with related sites and we just got offered a link sitewide on a pretty big site / if we return the favour...

BUT

...our banner on their site is part of a rotating script so every 30 seconds my banner disappears and a new one shows... therefore it's not rotating / random upon refresh of page - it literally changes while staying on a page.

Does this count to our PR and backlinks? - OR does having our banner / link as part of a rotating script void the backlink?

Need to know! Thank you

A rotating script? If it's written in javascript, the spiders don't crawl it, so it shouldn't matter. Besides, I don't think it would matter much anyway. I have random internal links (products) display on the front page and I think it helps pass juice internally. It does not use javascript.

Well I want my banners on his site TO BE crawled and found.. that's why I'm asking as I need to know what to offer back in terms of backlinks and their effectiveness.

@usasportstraining
Would you consider changing these random links (products) according to the search term that was used to get to your site?
I mean, if it's <whatever triathlon junkie uses #1) then you show them that exact products, but if they came looking for #2, show them the #2 product.

I did a search for do rotating banners offer backlinks (http://www.google.com/search?q=do+rotating+banners+offer+backlinks&rls=com.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7DKUS). There are some crazy results for it. Everything from directories and script sites. But I hit on #7 about Shomoney and banners (http://www.modernseo.com/2006/02/04/). It talks about an contest and its effectivenes with banners

I would think you would be able to get a backlink if it is in javascript as well. As far as it getting a backlink for PR I am not sure. I would think it would if the banner was written to the effect of being seen as a regular text link.
