Contests and writing quality content.

This completely depends on the service type.
IE: Free Blog vs. Paid services.
However in either case I cannot believe you left out Blog Pinging.
YOur market plan should be built into your business model. It is extremely important to set goals and dollar amounts you do not want to exceed.
This type of foundation and structure will never leave you in the red. (So long as you work hard)

I recently tried HubPages, because I would see a hubpage in the top 10 of Google for a bunch of keywords. Very easy to use and AdSense integrated as well.

Wow, I can't believe (and I'm not being mean!) that most of you didn't list Google or (insert smaller search engine here) as sources of traffic!
Social traffic is fun, but it's not nearly, not even CLOSE to the kind of organic traffic you should be going after. I know it takes time, but unless you've started optimizing to your blogs fullest potential, you're really missing out on great traffic, and great traffic usually = more money.
For instance, (for those of you that don't know), if you blog about chocolate cake and have some affiliate links built in, would you rather have 20 visitors that came from a random stumble, or would you rather have one visitor that typed in "buy chocolate cake online"?
I know which one I would want....(hint - second choice)

Yahoo Answers is a good one. I've set it up to notfiy me when anyone asks a question related to a number of keywords and then I post an answer trying to help sometimes with a link to one of my related blogs.

Cool, I didn't know you could do that! I'll have to check that out.
For me, StumbleUpon works, organic is growing, PPC, and Yahoo Answers.
