I have come to the point where I can say that I don't believe doing mass directory submissions is going to have any great effect on a websites ranking ability. The quality of the links is low and it is far more worth while just to purchase links on other websites related to your niche.

It sounds like your talking about free directory submissions. If so, I understand and agree that links from free directory submissions are of lower quality. How much promotion do you expect from a directory that is free?

If you want to get better results you should look to the quality directories.

Definitely. Submit to free directories and they have their own advantages. Usually PR 0 directories will accept sites free of charge and once they gain popularity and PR, they will become paid directories. Hence the sooner, it is better. Also start building links with sites having similar niches. Participating actively in the forums like dp and including your signature link has its own benefits. :)

As i know google has come up with some strict rules for paid links on web dir, so i wonder wots the next alternative coz obviously we've been doing directory submission for some time now, and never has seen any positive results. :(

i dont believe they will really major positive results, but they do help bring in traffic and increase your overall backlinks

One way or the another, they also lead to one way links. So definitely recommended.

Are Directories Submissions Worth It?

This is similar to the other question about whether or not forum signatures help pr. And, again, I never isolated directory submissions as a variable and formed any conclusions.

However, from anecdotal, personal experience I can say that when I've first gained a few high-quality natural links and then backed that up with a multitude of freebie directory links, I have gotten some nice results.

The way things are going, it seems like this sort of trend has even intensified lately; but, we never know what's coming tomorrow with algorithm changes.

I definitely wouldn't want to lie exclusively right now with just freebie directory submissions.

I paid $19 for some quality directory submissions a while back and the site I sold http://www.hackedipodtouch.com ranks number three for ipod touch news even though the only backlinks are from directory's and it has not been updated in months. So my opinion is yes they work but you need to go quality. Just my opinion :)

I believe they still have value even if it's much less than before, and I'm speaking about free directories here. A link is a link, even if it's PR0 and on an unrelated site. Obviously, a link on a related site would be better.

for a new site it will give little value and for se cache it is good. You are right, directory links do not have much value in the eyes of SE. But for a news site you can do some directory submissions.

Directory links are of course worthy of submitting. Google recommends directory submissions.
