I finally got google analytics. I know for a fact the website that has analytics installed is getting referrals from a dertain other site. Ive clicked the link myself. Why arent these referrals showing in google analytics? it shows some other referrals and a lot of direct requests. i suspect some of those direct requests are actually referrals. Any ideas?

If the referrals are passing through any 301 redirects then this stops analytics tracking them.

Also if you have Norton then it will be blocking the referrer details which will stop the tracking for your clicks.

it is not going through a 301 redirect but is opening in a new window. Would that effect anything?

Does Analytics automatically exclude your IP (the one from which you logged in to Analytics) from tracking referrals? I have a suspicion that it might do that. Or are you positive that others have clicked on that link as well?
