View Full Version : Link Directories vs. Link Farms

You don't need an SEO degree to know that Google.com penalizes link farms and (I think) sites contained within. For this reason, I try not to list my site on reciprocal linking pages that contain the URL .../link.html

My question to you is this: what is Google's search algorithm for decyphering link farms from content-rich link directories? Is it the extenstion of links.html or links.php? Or is it the amount of links you have in the directory? Or maybe the Google bot searches for linkbacks from the sites you link to in your farm/directory...

Any ideas people?

the neighbourhood mostly decides it. also the good-old-page-rank idea gives webmasters a good idea if its a bad linkfarm, or a nice link directory.

dont be too sceptic. look at the page, and the links, is it a place where you think you belong? then dont hesitate, apply! link.html is good, when msn.com or harvard.com have a link.html page, let me know I will apply!

Speaking of PageRank, my site is a PR 3. What PR sites should I link to--only sites of PR 3+?

It doesn't matter. Link to whoever you want, regardless of PR, php/html/language or whatever. As long as it suits you or your visitors, it's fine.

Link to good sites. Try to get links from good sites.

'Good' is subjective. Use your own judgment.

me too (http://www.sitetutor.com/links.html)

But my former partner created it back in the days, I of course would be naming it anything but using the L word.
