I know for a fact my sites are listed on dozens of Directories. They are also listed on countless forums and other sites. I have also joined many several different link exchanges. I have still not seen an increase in the back links. Why is it taking soo long for them to register. Some of these sites I am sure are crawled quite a bit because of how big and popular they are. Any ideas?

If you are looking at G for BL they take awhile to show up I think you can get a better idea of your backlinks at msn beta search (http://beta.search.msn.com/) msn beta adds them fast. I do not know how accurate they are I seem to get diff results every time I check but at least they show results.

don't worry about backlink and PR update as long as you see rank improvement. google isn't interested in frequent update of backlinks and PRs.

If you are concerned because of what you see on Google with a link: search, you may be wasting your time. Google does not show all the links they have indexed. No one really knows what criteria they apply in deciding which backlinks to show.

If the pages/directories/etc. that you have recieved links on are indexed, chances are good that Google knows about them. Of course, there is always a chance that your links (especially with some directories) are unspiderable for one reason or another.

WoW you just made my day. I had not looked at the Beta Msn search yet. I just did and I'm #1 on there for my target search words. Woohoo. That is just awesome.

Not just one of my sites but both. Thats just cool. I wonder what the big difference is between this and google. I wish I could get my sites to the top on Google like this. How many people actually use this beta search though.

The only ones using MSN beta search right now are SEOs, savvy webmasters/marketers and competing search engines IMO.

I don't think Joe Public has a clue or care about it (yet).

I'm number 3 on my most popular 2-keyword phrase on MSN Search (beta). Nice.

I think they don't really have a critera, they just show a random() percentage of the links to prevent SEOers and the likes. Same with their fake PageRank that they give you through the toolbar.
