Do you believe Google is the BEST search engine or just the most popular?

I know Google is the most popular but they are extremely simple. Websites such as Ask.com have come out with some nice looking search engines that have more to them. It's hard to believe that no other search engine has developed technology to match Google. Do people flock to Google because they are the best or is it simply because of brand loyalty?

Its because of what runs in the background, they have gone for the idea of keeping it simple to the eye up front but behind the scenes its probably the most complicated.

The sheer amount of money they have to play with helps of course and regarding what is best is more abouut whats best for the user, not overall, depends what a user is requiring from a search engine.

It is being forced down your throat though, it may not seem that way but for the majority of people you haven't chosen to be a user of google, more a case of being conditioned, and you will tell yourself that its the best because you read many other people saying the same.

Best for what? overall or a specific thing? quicker? more organised, serves up better porn? many people are less specific about why they think its the best.

Website such as Yahoo, MSN, and Ask.com also have a lot of money. I also believe they were out before Google. It's hard to believe they don't have coders that can come up wtih something to match Google.

Google is search engine not portal.. So its not need to make a portal like yahoo. Btw Google searching its better than other.. Thanks to Google for bring me a lot of traffic..:)

when people search they just want relevant results to their query, most people don't want or need all of the extra crap that SE's like Ask.com have, they want quick results that get them to the web page and/or information they're looking for...and that is exactly what Google does.

I used to use ask.com to find old websites (like pre-1999) that disappered that I wanted to find. Becuase Ask always had old shit in the serps.
But I think they fixed that so I do't use it anymore.

I like Google though, I think its the best their is no need for bells n' Whistles when comes to search.
Example.. Look at Ask.com now? There alot of javascript special effects in the image search, same for MSN.
Its not neccarsary. This would only attract naive users who think its cool but its not important.

The Only thing which makes Google stand out is their data centers located around the world.
Competitions can't invest so much on data centers as much as Google invests.
Their are already better search engines with better algorithms than Google's keyword based search, but they lack the processing power of Google's data centers.
Hope some new search engine comes along which can compete with Google.

Google is pretty much set on the Search Engine category. While other people use Yahoo/MSN for almost everything else, Google is at the top of the search engines.

I don't think I ever used anything else except when I first discovered the Internet in middle school, they would give us a few sites to use like yahoo, altavista, and dogpile.

It's so popular because it's a search engine that provides relevant results....When you see Google you see a simple, clean search box...not bs everywhere....Not going the portal route was the best thing they did and it's what has ruined msn and yahoo's search engine.

Google works best for me, not because of it's name, but because of relevant search results. I do use other SE occasionally. Live Search works very well too, I like it's image search (it's better than Google's).
