The last days I received some SPAM (and probably SCAM) by PM. Today I received another one from a new user 'ratulibrm':
Arrow Here Is Your FREE PR8 BackLink (Homepage Is Strong PR8).
Here I am giving you 2 free (no catch !!!!! - no strings attached !!!!!) permanent, "top-quality" PR5 links (HomePage is strong PR8), where you can post your backlinks with any "anchor text" of your choice - not even registrations required ::::
http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?thread=1811
http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?thread=2074
Note 1 : The present market value of a PR link is $5/ month. So for the above 2 free PR5 links, I am giving you $5/ month x 12 months x 2 = $120 free.
...
(It goes on for quite some time).
This kind of spam can be reduced significantly by :
1. limiting bulk PM. There is normally no reason to PM in bulk. Maybe only the forum admin should be allowed to PM in bulk, normal users should not. And I think new users without any post should not be allowed to send PM to more than one person at a time
2. limiting the amount of PM's users can send per day. PM is not the medium to send hundreds of messages a day. Users should not be allowed to send large amounts of PM in a short time.
3. filtering messages. If someone sends the same message to tens or hundreds or even thousands of other people it is probably SPAM. This should auto-alert a moderator.
