Generally the ones you want to block ignore the robots.txt

You can set up an automatic script that will log/ban the Ip of any suspicious bots but its quite tricky to do correct.

Most spiders only request the robots.txt once per crawl.#
Some none at all.

Hello allstar. If you are running an Apache webserver, you can block IP addresses with an .htaccess file. For example,

order allow,deny
deny from 11.222.33.
allow from all
will ban all traffic from 11.222.33.0 to 11.222.33.255
