I am fed up, myself, with seeing people reviewing products of which only one copy can be sold (i.e. templates and domain names). I know that it is not in any form an enforced rule that you do not review products in the marketplace, but in my opinion, it is as useless as cow dung (oh, and it "stinks").

If you look at the situation from the retailers view, the comments are making sales easier and harder. If the comments are positive, it will certainly make it easier for the retailer to make a sale, but it will take them longer to find posts that are actually interested, and have placed a bid, on/in the product. If the comments are negative, the retailer will have near to no luck at making a sale. If the comments are neutral, they are spam. The retailer could also choose not to sell the product due to the comments, which is not fair on the consumer.

If you look at the situation from the consumers view, it is just making the buying process harder. The consumer could easily end up buying something that they did not want if they see a positive comment. The consumer could easily end up changing their mind, and not buying something that they did want. The consumer may not even have the opportunity to buy the product, as the retailer may decide to keep or completely get rid of the product due to comments.

In my opinion, it is complete and utter spam and is in no way helping at all. It makes things harder on the consumer, and "consumes" more time, but it makes things even harder on the retailer.

Summary:

"I would put a book down if it were full of opinions, and clear of facts."

Just use the report button as comments in a sales thread are not allowed.
