I don't understand these commissions. Can anyone give me any idea why they are so different?

Yesterday I earned $18 from a $364 sale like this...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250199654873

but only $9 from a $545 sale like this...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300184413911

And yet I earned $9 from a $129 sale like this...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200183485213

It's actually quite simple. Ebay charges users different rates for buy it now auctions as opposed to regular auctions. You also have to factor in what features/extras the user puts on their pages, as they cost extra too. They also charge differently for the length/duration of the auction.

Ebay charges more for buy it nows, which is why that one paid more.

Yeah but the $545 item was "buy it now" "gallery" "featured" "subtitled" and the $364 was only "gallery" with no "buy it now" so I dont get that one.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, I just noticed the $545 listed multiple items so that probably has something to do with it too.

actually i have also found the fees vary a lot based on the seller's feedback. If they are a brand new user then ebay charges them more to list items. If they have hundreds of auctions closed chances are the fees will be lower. I have gotten $46 off a $52,000 item before ... weird.

this is totally not true, ebay charges the same no matter what the sellers feedback.

You probably sold something that has fixed listing fees, like cars.

That would be heartbreaking. And someone who had 2 ACRU's that day, both of whom bid on something for $1 and didn't win, made $50!

Yep, some commissions stink - I sold a $500,000+ house and the commission was pathetic.

Target cheap impulse items and get eBay signups, you'll make more :)

I agree with this approach 100%!! It is hard to make much on ebay commissions. Thats said I paid for my BANS in about a month.

High qty is key with ebay commissions
